Soo here's my two cents, this is a duplicate of what I posted in the DVD forum.

I made the mistake of watching this Blu-ray first on my crummy Sony Bravia TV first, and it appeared very grainy, possibly even noisy. However, I can safely say after getting to see it on my JVC projector. My previous grain issues are longer of consequence. It appears to me to be a decent, straight-forward representation of the elements David Shepherd had at his disposal, and there is much to be pleased with in this transfer. I've seen other silents look better on Blu-ray, but all this comes down to what survives of a film and in what condition. Here are some of my comment that are still true of the transfer,

For those who hate it, there is also still plenty of the prints inherent damage on display, there isn't much if any digital clean-up specks and scrapes.

The ball scene is quite vivid, but as of yet, only the Milestone DVD edition features the simulated 2-strip color after Christine and Gaston return from the roof-top.

There is an attempt to tint the phantom's cape red on the roof, but it is made to look like it was hand-stenciled and lacks the nuance of the Milestone version. I don't know who's was more correct, but I'd say the Milestone is more pleasing to the eye There are other "hand colored" tints in this Blu-ray; later the in the catacombs the rat-catcher's face is tinted, as are the flames of the "infernal heat" room.

I also detect just a breath of ghosting in some motion, not on a par with obnoxiousness of the Milestone DVD, but several pauses revealed some double-exposure like frames. This may just be the nature of the beast in terms of getting the right speed out of this film, and as I said, it's much more subtle than on the Milestone DVD.

I hope someone out there does a side-by-side comparison, but my hunch is that this transfer will reveal itself to be better than both the previous Image DVD and the Milestone DVD with it's PAL conversion issues. The only thing that might bug fans of the Milestone version is that this edition features less color manipulation to simulate the lost Technicolor footage, but we knew that would be the case already.
