Victor Frankenstein wrote:Probably rehashing a discussion that was way earlier in this thread, but I can't bring myself to scan 13 pages...Anyway, I finally saw this yesterday, and it left me confused. The fact of the matter is that they're still apes, and were very easily mowed down by machine guns when out in the open. I can't see how the ape colony in the forest would last another second after the end of the movie, once the army bombs that whole forest... Sure 100 apes versus 100 policemen(not even SWAT team) stood a fine chance, but once the big guns are called in, the apes would have to get multiplying pretty fast if they had any chance of growing to immense/effective population sizes.

Victor Frankenstein wrote: If the apes were simply dangerous, then yes, why send in a special task force to dispense with them? However with the apes having done little more than breaking out of the zoo, SFPD showed up the Golden Gate bridge(arguably just as much a national treasure as that forest) with machine guns blazing ready to basically destroy the apes and the bridge BEFORE the apes even did anything! After that event, the apes had several policeman's deaths on their paws... How could the SFPD possibly take it down a notch? In real life there was that instance only a couple months ago where all of those lions/tigers/etc got loose from the home of the wacko dude that owned them(after he killed himself), and the local Sheriff's department shot and killed every single animal SIGHT UNSOUND! The animals didn't even KILL anyone!
