Aug 28 11 9:24 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Just got back from finally seeing this for the first time, and was very satisfied with the film. Excessive CGI usually is a turn off to me, but the apes were amazing characters. Andy Serkis deserves some sort of award for his portrayal of Ceasar. Good work all around. Like many here I grew up with POTA the films, the tv series all the Mego toys (which I still have), this was my Star Wars before that series even came about. The ending credit visuals and the snippets about the space mission have me looking forward to the next installment.

I normally detest most CGI, but the apes are so lifelike I quickly forgot the computer effects and got into the story. The nods to the original were fun, too. I'm looking forward to seeing where the story goes. (Oh, just wanted to add I'm still rooting for the humans!) Strangenstein

Great story and characters, you even get emotionally envolved with the CGI apes. Had a fun evening and will definitely get the Blu and rewatch. I could even imagine the unthinkable, yes - I would actually enjoy it if the team would continue and make some more Ape movies.

Sep 21 11 10:50 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I too just got back from seeing this. I'm not going to read this entire thread but I was very happy with the movie. Who knew they could make a Summer Blockbuster with a brain? I was REALLLLY shocked to see that they went for the brain aspect and not just 30-minutes of "story" wrapped around 90-minutes of action. I thought the film was extremely good and I certainly can't wait for the next one. It wasn't as good as the original film but it's certainly much better than the remake and all the sequels.

Like other posters, I find continual CGI to be tiresome and a turn off, but it really works well here. Caesar was a fully believable character. What I liked most about it was it gave you a complete story and did'nt disrespect the original '68 version. Some of the nods to the original were obvious but it did'nt bother me at all. It's still playing and well worth seeing at least once. One question: what was the significance of the French Connection 2 clip that was playing in the monkeyhouse?

Jan 10 12 11:48 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Just caught it on Redbox. Surprisingly, my husband liked it more than I. I felt I had already seen it because of the trailers. I'm not sure why it left me cold. (Could be because I'm about to go into labor. Who knows?) I feel they wasted the girlfriend character who works in a zoo. While to me she wasn't completely unnecessary (like the girlfriend in "Grimm"), she was pretty close. I enjoyed the movie until it got less intimate and more Will-Smith-action movie. That's just personal preference. I like more subtly. I felt hit over the head with certain things. Even the blood dripping in the airport my husband was like, "Cue blood in 3 seconds." It was a well-done movie. I'm usually adverse to CGI but I kept forgetting the apes were CGI. That's always good. (Not ready to hand in that Harryhausen fan club ID just yet!!!) I think a sequel would be completely unnecessary. It would have to be a very, very well-written script!

I think this is one of those films that either catches you early or doesn't catch you at all. It was so well done right from the opening scenes, and obviously had a heart, that I easily bought into the premise and rode it through to the credits. I'm a CGI hater, but it was a cut above anything else I've seen. I think it worked because it added so much to the characters and the story - not just used to animate a fantastical object or creature. Okay, the final confrontation was not character-driven, so sue me. As another poster said, there was an actual story, not some paper thin establishing scene followed by endless and pointless action. Fortunately, the film took the time to flesh out Caesar and his evolution. Had it failed to do so, there would have been no emotional impact whatsoever. I enjoyed the nods to the original POTA. They were subtle and respectful. One thing that made me laugh is that the primate prison was called the "San Bruno Primate Center." I live in San Bruno and I can attest to the fact that there is no primate center that I've ever seen! Hmmmm.....maybe behind the mall.

I thought the CGi took a dramatic change for the better when Caesar grew up. The handling of the facial expressions and general movement was almost night and day different. Plus no matter how you cut it the image of the chimp swinging all over the house just did not look very convincing at all. Yet when the older one was locked up, that whole sequence worked very well. Better writing, too. Put me down as a fan of the film, The BR looked great, too!
