Hello from Denmark
Since i was ten years old or so, i have had a huge fetisch for movies related to vampires (of which i might have 200 movies), various monsters, gloomy castles from the middleage, scary prisoncelles with torture equipment, crazy scientists, etc. or in three words: "Gothic Horror Movies". Then around 1970 a to me TERRIBLE thing happened, when box-office hits like "Texas Chainsaw Massacre", "The Exorcist", "Jaws" and "The Night of the Living Dead" made the horror genre much more violent. Somehow i could still live with it, since i clearly prefer those gory movies towards various shitty love stories or dramas... In fact i prefer ANY horror/sci-fi/fantasy genre towards 99% of the shitty television!
Nevertheless i have for a long time refused to see any horror movie newer than 1989 (i only watch very few of those gory movies from the 80' ...but now and then i do), except j-horror, which i find quite cool, and then maybe a handful more.
Now my problem however is that i suddenly want to see some of the best horror and maybe sci-fi/adventure movies from 1990-2011, so that i can be updated of what happens.
So could anyone please come with some recommendations from that period on maybe a list with 10 or more titles? But please leave Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Star Wars, X-Men, 28 Days Later, Underworld and Resident Evil out, since i already know them. Or maybe you would still put them in, for future referance if someone has the same question?
