(If you live in the UK and love movie serials, this is probably the cheapest, http://dvd-video.shop.ebay.co.uk/DVD-Film-TV-/11232/i.html?_catref=1&_fln=1&_ssn=dvdsforever2010&_trksid=p3911.c0.m282) Anyway I have heard good reviews about this film and I am willing to hear anyone elses thoughts on it.

L Ron Hubbard (!) was one of the writers and if you like dark, spooky house mysteries with secret passages galore, you should like this one. Don (Don Winslow) Terry is at his best with top shelf villainy by a crazed Walter Miller and Grant Withers as the sadistic henchman, Gridley. Throw in a mysterious phantom pirate, jewel theives, sinister characters, a missing father and ace stuntman Yakima Canutt as the leader of the mole men - who have the thankless task of spending all their time digging for a hidden treasure.

It was one of the first serials I ever saw so that probably put it up a few notches on my list. I am sure "Big Boy" Williams is pretty hard for some folks to take, but I just love that big dopey Jellybean. I remember my kids loving him too. So sound serials with old dark house flavor: 1. SECRET OF TREASURE ISLAND 2. WHO'S GUILTY? 3. THE IRON CLAW 4. MYSTERY SQUADRON Any others??

Aug 9 11 8:51 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Just re-watched THE MYSTERY SQUADRON and it, too, features lots of secret passages. Anyone else like this one? Oh yeah! MYSTERY SQUADRON sometimes gets overshadowed by more high-profile titles when serials get discussed, but I think it's a lot of fun. (Wasn't this one of the serials used on the old PBS "Matinee at the Bijou" series back in the Eighties? For some reason I'm thinking that's where I first discovered it.)

Aug 19 11 10:35 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Just got SECRET OF TREASURE ISLAND and am loving it. The first chapter has a bit too much plot shoehorned in, and there are too many characters, but I am at chapter 3 and some of the sets are great. I imagine at 15 chapters there will be more padding than film, but so far I think it is one of the better Columbias. Also the endings don't give away action in the next chapter like most Columbia serials do. Sounds like a different narrator, too. The female lead is not very attractive to me. She looks just like an aunt I had who was never able to find a husband! I still have a loooong way to go, but so far I am having fun.

Aug 22 11 8:48 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Yes Doctor Daka, it is a serial! And a pretty good one. I have finished it and, as expected it really dragged in parts. Especially when they were off the island. I thought the lead was a bit of a wimp, the female lead screamed too much, and, well I still had a lot of fun with it. I only wish the thing was 12 chapters. I am still trying to figure who The Professor and Dr. X were supposed to be. There were some excellent earthquake and volcano effects along with all the spooky passages and the occasional sighting of what appears to be the Devil Bat's nephew. I wonder if Dr. Carruthers picked up his original bat on Treasure Island?
