Watched this for the first time since I was 5. I was a huge Captain American fan as a child, to the point that my favorite doll that I would carry around as a security blanket was named Bucky.
I remember being insanely excited for this. I remember playing next door with my friends and my mom coming out and calling me because it was coming on. After that I don't remember much, I remember not enjoying it, and I remember the clear plastic shield that's it.
So last night Syfy played all the Captain America movies. My God what were these people thinking. It's over an hour and a half until you get to see Captain America. Even then he's not really Captain America, he wears a damn motorcycle helmet and a horrible version of the costume.
Ever scene in this damn thing is stretched to fill time. Something as simple as a helicopter landing and a person jumping out which should be two three second shots is dragged into over a minute of helicopter circling. The big pay off of this shot would be Captain America jumping out of the side of the helicopter on his bike, but no that happens behind a damn rock!
We get a cool introduction to the shield, and that's it no more cool shield action. In one of the two very brief Captain America scenes he uses it to block bullets a few times.
So now we get to the huge climax, this is what all the waiting has been for right. We are going to some Captain American kicking ass, throwing his shield and taking names, right? Wrong!. So Capt. gets dropped off out of the helicopter, he chases down this huge semi. Capt. then gets off his bike and leave his shield on the bike, WTF! The climatic battle is he walks along the top of the truck and bends over an exhaust pipe and the bad guy passes out.
Wait it gets worse. As Captain America realizes he just unintentionally put someone at deaths door, he finds a deadmans switch on the guys chest, this switch will set off the neutron bomb in the back of the truck. So now the Captain's buddy has to land the helicopter and save the life of the man that Captain America just inadvertently tried to kill.
Oh and I guess and some point they found out how horrible the new costume is because the last scene is a tacked on excuse to present him in the classic costume. He still however keeps the motor cycle helmet.
Can't wait for part two, Christopher Lee is the villain.
