The Sam Sherman commentaries inexplicably end around the 50 minute mark on these Hemisphere releases, and much of the same information gets relayed on every disc. The other titles acquired by Hemisphere were usually given a new title, all featuring the word 'blood,' which explains why the 'Blood Island Trilogy' had new titles for television- BRIDES OF BLOOD became THE ISLAND OF LIVING HORROR, MAD DOCTOR OF BLOOD ISLAND became TOMB OF THE LIVING DEAD, BEAST OF BLOOD became BEAST OF THE DEAD (Al Adamson's BRAIN OF BLOOD became THE CREATURE'S REVENGE). 1966's THEATRE OF DEATH had been retitled BLOOD FIEND, 1967's THE TORTURE CHAMBER OF DR. SADISM had been retitled BLOOD DEMON, but it started with 1959's TERROR IS A MAN, retitled BLOOD CREATURE upon it's 1964 reissue. It can't be a coincidence that all three Hollywood leading ladies, Beverly Hills, Angelique Pettyjohn, and Celeste Yarnall, had all appeared in an Elvis Presley movie prior to their Phillippine adventures. I also noticed that all of the Filipino girls featured bare midriffs and a lei aroung their necks (except for the naked ones of course). BRIDES is probably my favorite with Kent Taylor along for sturdy support, MAD DOCTOR most notable for its excess of nudity and extreme gore, right down to the slaughtered animals, while BEAST has little but Celeste Yarnall, being mainly a jungle adventure until its final third. It's a dull ride following the opening massacre, though a graphic surgery does liven things up before the headless monster gets up, ala Glenn Strange in HOUSE OF FRANKENSTEIN/DRACULA, for a last minute rampage. All of these Hemisphere features appeared on Pittsburgh's Chiller Theater, even TERROR IS A MAN and 1970's THE NIGHT VISITOR (Max Von Sydow).
