In my own surroundings here in Copenhagen, Denmark, and among friends, i am definitely horror expert number one, and then it sometimes happens that i consider myself as a true horror expert, but when i then enter this forum, and ESPECIALLY when i read a thread like this, i come down to earth again!!!

New material is still turning up, and I'm looking in particular for early (pre-1940) examples of genre material in Arab movies, to determine just where the 'beginning' of this tale may be located in terms of local production. So far, the earliest example to turn up is a ghost-themed horror-comedy sequence in a 1936 Egyptian feature, which concludes with two petrified police sentries literally wetting themselves, a moment that caused no little consternation when screening the long-forgotten movie a couple of months ago, as a 'damp pants' visual evidently comes across as an unexpected 'bad taste' moment with modernday western and Egyptian audiences alike...! And who knows how many more 'treasures' like this are yet to be found?!!
