And it has been since MGM's vault fire in the 1960'sCan we PLEASE put this one to bed already...?

Phantom, dear boy, that's overstating it dramatically, no? Everyone on Earth does not know anything about it, and would not care even if the thing appeared tomorrow (with the miniscule exception of us). We well-read and intellectually superior cogniscenti know that, at this point in time, it appears to be lost to the ages... like the outtakes to the Garland STAR IS BORN, the expanded METROPOLIS, the Melford DRACULA, Theda Bara's version of CLEOPATRA, Browning's THE UNKNOWN, W.C. Field's excised bits from TALES OF MANHATTAN, the censored footage from Hammer's first DRACULA, the whole of GREED, and so on. Some still are "lost," others, not so much.
As for the silly claim that someone had a Silents Please version on tape (which would be 30 minutes, not 15 in any case)... no, that did deserve comment and logical dismissal. Everyone knows it was a Castle Films release. I preferred the 400' sound version myself.

Geez, rich kids...! I could only afford the Standard 8mm 50' edition!
But then as consolation, I had this lil' rarity, too:
