The only people who continue to make claims to the contrary are trolls and fools... and neither deserve a response anymore.

Everyone on Earth does not know anything about it, and would not care even if the thing appeared tomorrow (with the miniscule exception of us). We well-read and intellectually superior cogniscenti know that, at this point in time, it appears to be lost to the ages... like the outtakes to the Garland STAR IS BORN, the expanded METROPOLIS, the Melford DRACULA, Theda Bara's version of CLEOPATRA, Browning's THE UNKNOWN, W.C. Field's excised bits from TALES OF MANHATTAN, the censored footage from Hammer's first DRACULA, the whole of GREED, and so on. Some still are "lost," others, not so much. As for the silly claim that someone had a Silents Please version on tape (which would be 30 minutes, not 15 in any case)... no, that did deserve comment and logical dismissal. Everyone knows it was a Castle Films release. I preferred the 400' sound version myself.

Oct 16 11 1:58 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	You can add to the list of movies supposedly "lost for ever" until recently the German-language version of THE LAUREL-HARDY MURDER CASE (admitedly, not 100% complete, but available on DVD in Germany after its discovery in Russian archives) and the French-language version of BLOTTO (not available on video at this time - but two scenes were available on Internet in recent months, and the film itself is going to be restored, apparently). You also can add Maurice Tourneur's FIGURES DE CIRE and many other titles considered as "lost" only some years ago. Like DER ZINKER (an Early German movie from a novel by Edgar Wallace, directed by Karel Lamac), lost, found, released on DVD, and recently broadcast on ARTE. Or the promotional little movie for MGM's productions, starring Laurel, Hardy, and James Finlayson. Excepted in some dramatical cases when the negative and the only print ever made were accidentally destroyed, nobody can know if a movie is really lost. Moreover, during the silent era, two (slightly different) negatives were made by some studios - one being for exportation. So, a miracle can still happen.

Was SK buff enough to begin collecting from this early stage? Legend persists of his later hoarding a 35mm London After Midnight. Kubrick was among earliest directors with encyclopedic knowledge of film history." It does say "Legend" has it that......so one wonders if Kubrick really ever had a 35MM print of LONDON and if he did whatever happened to it?

But seriously, folks, I would dearly love to think that Stanley had a pristine print of LONDON AFTER MIDNIGHT and that it's still safely held in the temperature-controlled vault in his British basement. I would love to think that...but I don't. It sure is a pretty rumor, though.
