Jul 24 11 2:45 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Don't we see Doc Hallin smashed-up against the Venetian blinds (from the POV of Steve McQueen's car out front) and the Doc sort of disappearing before our eyes? I'll have to grab my Criterion DVD and check it out. I should have clarified... yes, the shot you describe is in the general release of the movie. The scene that was cut quick-cuts between Hallen trying to dial out for help, the Blob oozing under the door, and finally attacking him. This happens just before the 'B' roll of that reel, which is the shot of Steve and Jane pulling up in front of the house (and, of course, leads to Steve seeing Hallen for the brief split second with the Blob on his head behind the venetian blinds). Anything with Lon Chaney is a "must" for me, and I do hope (against hope, that is) that a print of the film does surface one day...but to be honest, I like the film just the way it is..."LOST to the ages" as CountWhimpula once told me (he also told me that he had a fifteen minute copy of it on VHS, that he taped off of a TV show called "Silents Please", but I digress). Chaney's make-up for the vampire is truly original. It goes against EVERY steryotype we have, when it comes to vampires. And the fact that all we have as a reference for it are publicity stills only adds to its mystique. This was Tod Browning's precursor to Dracula, with all of the trappings of what we consider to be the "classic horror film." In a way, it's truly the most frightening horror film ever made, on reputation alone! The fact that London After Midnight is lost is probably the best thing that could have ever happened to it, because by many accounts, the movie wasn't all that great anyway. The brilliance of Chaney AND Browning has literally been "frozen in time." I personally love all of the talk that goes on, regarding London After Midnight. It keeps the legend alive.

There is so much that is left to the imagination. "When the legend becomes fact, print the legend", so to speak.

Oct 9 11 6:03 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	post 35 Tom Weaver As a kid, I saw on some local NY TV station a print of THE BLOB that included a shot of the small-town doctor getting Blobbed, as seen by Steve McQueen from outside as the doctor bangs up against the window and messes up the Venetian blinds. Try finding THAT shot in any print today. Your wish is my command. Maybe in the TV negative that shot was cut or shortened, or they optically darkened it so you couldn't tell what was happening, or SOMEthing.

Was that the print which was shown on a North Carolina station, right after they showed the version of DRACULA which featured the Van Sloan epilog, or the version shown in Colorado on AMC?

There is NO evidence that LONDON AFTER MIDNIGHT was ever broadcast on television. Unless it miraculously turns up in some archive, LONDON AFTER MIDNIGHT is GONE.
