Oct 2 11 1:47 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Reading this thread with interest and not sure, but either this guy people are calling a fraud is very good at being one or people should hope he is not going to hold grudges. I thought I had heard the name "Carl Hernz" before because of belonging to the UFMCC, and checking up on him, I was right. Doing some search engine work and pulling out an old copy of a newsletter he used to publish for an MCC church in Florida I know this is the same guy. I do know he did a great job for the GLBT community and that the Rev. Troy Perry has met him. The Flickr account has this information on a weblink from the profile page about your controversy. Oh, and partially unrelated methinks--Is this other Phantom DVD going to be available in stores or Netflix or other online streaming services? It would be cool to have more 3D movies of any type, especially one can view with regular blue-red glasses, available to the public. I don't think the home popularity will match that of theaters until it is easier and cheaper than it now is, at least in the US where 3D glasses are mostly active types and cost like $100 each.

Their PR people contacted me some time ago and mentioned the possibility of a interview with Carl Hernz to set the record straight, but it came to naught. Shame.

I was less impressed by the voice acting than the reviewer was, but it does make the video seem worth viewing at least once. It looks like an intriguing oddball of a production that took a lot of work to result in a strange hybrid of old and new techniques.

I don't like the 3D conversion and you're right, the guy doing the Phantom's voice is horribly miscast, but I've just ordered the DVD anyway. This is one train wreck I can't walk away from. Apparently the Carl Hernz version has been abandoned, though he says that he's passed it off to other hands. The scenes in the trailer look very good. I've compared the elements to both the 1925 and 1929 version and he actually did take the scenes from the two different prints and combine them: Click here if video isn't embedded. But the scenes chosen for the trailer look to have been pretty carefully selected. Many of the corresponding scenes from the 1925 version and the 1929 version are from separate takes (especially the close-ups), so it wouldn't be possible to get an accurate 3D effect from them (as you discovered when you tried to mash up a couple of mismatched scenes in your review). I have nothing bad to say about Mr. Hernz, but I honestly doubt that he would have been able to complete his project with the materials available. - Clark hollowaypages.com

I cant post what he has written but I have asked if we can arrange for some sort of interview, either to be in my end of season podcast (due the end of this month) or just as some text answers that I can post on my forum. Legal mumbo jumbo may prevent a lot of information being passed on, but I have stressed that all we really care about is the lost footage, and hopefully I can get some straight answers on if there ever was any, if he saw it, where it is now, and why cant we have a still image to prove it.
