There is no doubt that the "Internet" and mass marketing has changed moviegoing. Seeing a film with fresh eyes is almost impossible these days.
Still, avoiding Spoilers should be a courtesy extended by all CHFB members, especially in the early days of a film.
This will be impossible to police, so we're not going to do that.
But here are some guidelines:
-- Please place SPOILER ALERT prominently if you reveal a plot twist or something that might spoil someone's enjoyment of the film.
-- In the early days (first week especially), please post in general terms. Remember that there are many who still don't know what a film like SUPER 8, for example, is about even as fans debate its merits. Bear that in mind.
-- Don't reprint a review (for a variety of reasons), but instead link to it.
-- Most importantly, if spoilers concern you and you haven't seen a film yet, DON'T READ THE THREAD UNTIL YOU SEE IT.
Again, policing this will be impossible and there's no way to prevent details leaking as soon as discussion begins. But a litte restarint can go a long way.
Example: I would love to not know that GREEN LANTERN includes a variety of other GLs, including Kiliwog. But from the marketing, the toys, the ads, I know the film is indeed cosmic in scale. I'd rather have found that out in the theatre, but those days are gone.
Final example: I remember reading that THE SIXTH SENSE had a "surprise.'' No, that alone didn't give it away, but seeing the film and looking for the "surprise" it was easy to predict what the ending was. I'm pretty sure it would have been a surprise if I wasn't tipped to one.
Anyhow, just a reminder and again, the best defense is not clicking on a film's thread until you see it. (If indeed you want to see it).
