Here is a better look at Superman's new updated costume (from the alternate cover to the new Superman # 1). I guess it will try to explain why Superman needs a collar, gauntlets, a utility belt, knee pads, and all the extra lines on the costume that look like armor. Superman's costume was always simple and iconic. It has lasted for over 70 years with just a few tweaks here and there. Will this new costume last the test of time? Will it last for a year or two or five? Will this be the costume Henry Cavill wears? Is DC trying to distance themselves from the Siegel and Shuster created Superman since in 2013 the heirs will own most of the iconic parts of Superman? Grant Morrison will be writing Action Comics new # 1 (but for how long?) and George Perez will write Superman and maybe do a cover or two but not draw the stories.
According to Morrison: ""We want to introduce a kind of take on Superman that's going to be so different that no one can expect what might happen next. One of the things we're going to do in this book is also to show you how Superman is, who he is, why he ended up wearing the costume that he wears. And to show kind of a different side to the character than we've ever seen before." Yeo we get yet another reboot.
