The script is such a dramatic departure from the tone and style of the original show. If we continued to call the show The Munsters, people are just going to to think we’re doing The Munsters. We’re doing a reinvention and re-imagination of this property. I love the Universal monsters. I love the Creature from the Black Lagoon, The Invisible Man, The Wolfman,Phantom of the Opera, The Mummy. There’s so many great characters we can run through this metaphor of family storytelling that it just felt it was ripe to do as a one-hour dramedy. Having all those elements to play with, the toy box is really really full. So assuming Universal clears the rights to more creatures, you’ll add the other monsters into the show? Absolutely. There’s some great stories going forward in the series. Any story you can tell onParenthood we can run through a Universal monster prism and tell it in a very twisted off-kilter way.

Jerry O'Connell to Play Herman Munster in NBC's 'Munsters' Reboot He'll co-star opposite Eddie Izzard in the drama pilot from "Pushing Daisies" creator Bryan Fuller. 7:08 PM PDT 6/4/2012 by Lesley Goldberg Jerry O'Connell has a new address: 1313 Mockingbird Lane. The former Defenders star has been cast as Herman Munster in NBC's Munsters reboot, Mockingbird Lane, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. The actor will play the patriarch of the family, who in the 1960s CBS comedy was played by Fred Gwynne. In the reboot, Herman -- like in the original series -- has a permanent home under Grandpa Munster's thumb. O'Connell joins the previously cast Eddie Izzard, who will play the powerful and quick-witted vampire in a role that was originated by Al Lewis. Mason Cook will play Herman and Lily's werewolf son, Eddie. Bryan Singer will executive produce and direct the pilot. STORY: Eddie Izzard Joins NBC's 'Munsters' Pilot NBC initially eyed the reboot, from Pushing Daisies creator Bryan Fuller, for this development season but pushed the project to summer. Fuller and NBC first made an attempt to revive the sitcom last year, with the network ultimately passing. His newer version is said to be an edgier and slightly darker take exploring origins of Herman and Lily Munster (originally played by Gwynne and Yvonne De Carlo) and how they arrived at the famed 1313 Mockingbird Lane address. The original series, produced by Universal Studios, aired 70 episodes from 1964-66. O'Connell, repped by UTA and 3 Arts, most recently starred on CBS' legal drama The Defenders, which was canceled after one season.

Although the deal isn't final because the actress is attached to another pilot for ABC. nailbiter111 - 6/5/2012 According to Deadline Mariana Klaveno (True Blood) has been cast as Lily Munster, but the deal is contingent on her being released from ABC's Devious Maids. That is a pilot that Mariana is attached to but she only has a few line in the first episode. Her role is a recurring one and that creates a bit of an issue. In light of the project’s possible move to Lifetime, in an act of gamesmanship or a mix of both, Devious Maids producer ABC Studios has so far refused to release the actress. I hear that, in a major departure from precedent, NBC is even willing to let Klaveno recur on Devious Maids in exchange for securing her in first position to Mockingbird Lane where she would play the female lead. the studio has not agreed to convert Klaveno’s role to a recurring so she can join Mockingbird Lane. After one extension, I hear there is now a ticking clock that expires at the end of business today to get Klaveno released from Devious Maids so she can play Lilly Munster. The role of Lily Munster was originally played by Yvonne De Carlo. The pilot, written by Bryan Fuller and to be directed by Bryan Singer, is described as a reinvention of the 1960s sitcom about The Munsters, a family of “monsters” — vampires, werewolves and Frankenstein, and their “plain” cousin (Charity Wakefield) — that will feature striking visuals in the vein of Fuller’s ABC dramedy Pushing Daisies. O’Connell will play family patriarch, the handsome and gangly Herman Munster, a great dad and devoted husband. He is married to Lily, a vampire, with whom he has fathered a 10-year-old boy, Eddie (Mason Cook). Strong but sentimental, Herman works at a funeral home, and worries that Eddie’s transformation into a werewolf and burgeoning awareness of his family’s origins will crush the boy’s spirit.
