There has been good stuff, like the Death of Gwen Stacy, the introduction of Wolverine and the Phoenix saga. There's a buddy of mine that still reads them, and tells me goofy stuff about Aunt May, so I'm okay with stepping away when I did.

SPOILERS:
I saw this last night and liked it, with a few quibbles, but first the good: I liked the historical context of the story, felt the relationship between Magneto and Professor X was the backbone of the film, of course, but it was one that the audience cared about, but the real revelation to me was the depth of Magneto's character in the story, and the sadness revolving and involving his backstory. The scene where Charles looks into Erik's mind to help him move the satilite dish moved me. The third act was in particular, lots of fun despite some of its predictability, still sat well with me because we knew there was going to be an emotional confrontation after all of the, to me, impressive fireworks. The shot, in the trailer, of Magneto pulling the sub from under the water was really impressive, if not stunning. It's a sexy story as well, and walks the line nicely for a supposed comic book film. The Wolverine cameo was awesome, and the crow roared with glee when they saw him.

Quibbles: The solution to Mystique's dilemma felt rushed. She had to say good-bye and wish Charles well in one scene, and he does not seem to miss her, after such a sibling-like friendship. The film was too long, and I would have cut SOME of that training stuff in the second act, and I was underwhelmed by the Beast make up. He looked like a kitten, not a panther, in many shots. I would have changed his proportions and given his voice some bass. I did not know what became of ERik's father. Did he survive the camps?

There's a little Bond in Erik early int he story, and as poster earlier here he would make a good 007. His scene in Argentina was impressive. Kevin Bacon was cool when he was speaking German, but when he spoke English he became Kevin Bacon again.This was a very good set up to a sprawling three other films, and was lots of fun for me to watch.

King's right. It was during that whole John Byrne/Terry Austin story that went before or after the Phoenix saga, if I remember correctly.

I liked this a lot as well, Hal. Thor, this film and Super 8 are my faves so far this summer.
