Another plot hole is that if  Jane was "too drunk to drive", how would she have the  concentration and reflexes to move out of the way of the oncoming vehicle at the gate?  Both would have been impaired.

A police investigation also would have shown Blanche's fingerprints on the keys still inside the car.

There's another clue in the flashback that it's not Jane driving the car.   Jane has blonde hair, Blanche has dark hair.

I can't find an on line clip to create a screen capture, but I know there is point where the car pulls towards the driveway and we get a look - for about a second or two- of the passenger
in the car, and I am certain she has blonde hair.

Can someone please post  a screen capture of it?

The opening part wasn't as much a flashback as it was a prologue, it wasn't someone's subjective memory of what happened.  There's no narration of a character describing earlier events. such as Helene in "The Fly" or
Rose Dewitt Bukater in "Titantic" , in which case there could be misreprsentations of what actually happened, due to it based upon a person's memory. Sans that, it's *supposed* to be factual. 

Another plot hole is that Blanche says when the police found her, they assumed Jane had been the driver, but also that Jane was missing for three days. I'm assuming the police had to question Blanche during the three days, and
the problem is that Blanche did not have a way of knowing for sure if Jane could or did remember what happened. And if Jane did remember, there would be a conflicting story for the police to
investigate.

It also makes little sense (to me) that after the crash, Jane would just run away like that. She would stick around to see what happened, and especially since her sister had been driving  the car,  told her to get out and open
the gate. On the film, we can hear Blanche's voice cry out when the collission happened, Jane would have heard that , too, and ran away? Too drunk to drive and too drunk not to remember, but not too drunk to obey instructions to leave the car and open a gate?

Hopefully someone can come up with a better quality capture than this, but we can see the passenger in the car as it approaches the driveway appears to have light hair. Maybe it isn't all that clear on this
image, a better quality one might do the trick and perhaps we might get one that gives up a glimpse of the driver as well.

I wonder if there are any production  records that show who doubled for Crawford and Davis here.

The footage of Jane Hudson  the movie executives  are looking at in the screening room is Bette Davis from Parachute Jumper ( 1933) and Ex-Lady ( 1933). The footage Blanche sees on television of
herself is Crawford in Sadie McKee ( 1934).

I'm guessing that nothing happened to Jane after the accident because Blanche did not press charges ( as she knew she caused the accident) and if Jane was locked up, who would care for her.
The studio might have wanted everything covered up to avoid unfavorable publicity.


Another thing- what was a Baby Jane Hudson doll doing in the car that fell out with it's head cracked? 

My take at the time  when I saw the film originally as to why they didn't show close ups of the driver and the person at the gate was that afte rjust showing the actual Bette Davis in the screening room clip, it would have been bad for
overall continuity purpose to show someone else doubling for for her, since the footage and incident at the gate were in the same years, unlike 1917, which was eighteen years earlier. same for Crawford.  The real
reason, though ,was not to let the viewer who was driving so as not to divulge the ending.  The fact that we didn't see their faces at the time didn't set up any red flags in me.
