What pisses me off is that DAMAGES, which both my wife and I enjoyed a great deal, is only going to be on Directv. Now that we moved into the city I bundled with Time Warner and am paying about half what I did in the country with Directv, HughesNet and ATT. We had no choice there.

It seems to be evolving into a mythic version of the Wars of the Roses, with the House of Stark(York) against the House of Lannister (Lancaster). Although the show aired 2 weeks ago, a lot of people are still catching up with "On Demand", etc. And that plot point is one of the biggest SPOILERS in the history of television, IMO. We're getting to where we get HBO about four months out of the year for our favorite shows so I will probably catch up with it next summer.

Apr 24 12 5:42 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I'd been rather annoyed with a lot of how Game of Thrones had been unfolding since the start - 50 minutes of yammering, with 5 minutes of cool #++* to hook me at the end of an episode - but things have been picking up these last two weeks. Why? In a nutshell: Tyrion Lannister rocks! I don't generally care much for Peter Dinklage as an actor, but I'm definitely warming to him as the clever and manipulative Tyrion, especially when he's sticking it to the utterly disgusting and loathsome Joffrey. Another thing I'm liking, especially in this week's episode, are the cringe inducing scenes of horror, all of which have been handled with style and a remarkable degree of cleverness. The foot amputation, the business with the rat-in-the-bucket torture sequence and even the brutality of Joffrey's scenes with the whores, have largely been sterling examples of how to effectively create palpable horror without actually showing a bloody thing. I hope this continues as I'm finding it surprisingly refreshing and smart television. As I said before, I haven't read the books, but I have a very strong feeling, based on what has happened so far, that the characters I like and admire to some extent are all going to die horrible deaths. Probably the nastiest characters are the ones that will win in the end. You may say that this perfectly mirrors real life, but I don't need to be reminded of it! Good drama, fine acting, and a wonderful production, though.

May 30 12 10:33 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Darn right it was, and I just read an article that the producers had to go to the HBO suits and BEG to get the extra money to shoot the battle scene. The suits wanted it done off camera to save money and it just would have been a HUGE difference having someone explain the huge ball of green fire and actually seeing it. An amazing sequence.
