Lots of One Million Years B.C. is very bright, stark, dusty and sun-baked (quite like the 1940 original, actually), while When Dinosaurs Ruled has more of a cool, twilight-y, humid look. Both of these opinions are meant as compliments -- the differences really help the two pictures to stand apart from each other.

Mar 24 09 7:53 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I can think of a half-way obscure reason that it and When Dinosaurs Ruled The Earth are sort of "opposite numbers." Not as in good and bad (in spite of what I'm going to say), just opposite. Victoria Vetri is one of those countless actresses with that "Playboy" connection. Not only does that not bother me for prudish reasons, it also doesn't bother me because of that whole "bimbo" image that gets connected to someone like that. Instead it's for a third reason - it just gets so repetitive and predictable hearing the phrase "Starring Playmate ---- -----!" Raquel Welch, on the other hand, not only didn't come FROM the magazine, but one of the smaller things she became known for was always declining to appear in it AFTER becoming famous. Again, I don't admire that for moral reasons, but because it was just plain ORIGINAL! So in that small way, the two movies are opposites.

Mar 24 09 8:35 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	In the redone Hammer doc, I do a little without-comment bit on the stellar discoveries of Hammer, like Olinka Berova ("Remember the name!"), "international star Clarita" (yeah, right) All of that stuff is sheer, wonderful bosh. "France's latest sex kitten..." "Hammer's new star discovery..." I can;t fault them for the attempt, but they never really discovered a star. Raquel Welch was a given, getting the buildup from Fox; Ursula Andress had been knocking aorund (unused, at least on film) since 1956 and had already done Dr. No and What's New Pussycat... but, hey, it's show biz. "She has to have a good face and figure, of course," says James Careras in the WHEN DINOS promo, "but there's also something extra. And Victoria Vetri has it, I'm sure." Uh-huh.

I thought the dinosaurs were awesome, however. Now I am 15, so...I think Raquel in the bikini would really make my day! LOL! Trouble is, I can't find it in any of my local video libraries! So I'll have to buy it off Amazon!

Again, my remarks had nothing to do with her as an actress. In fact, as I said, that whole "Playboy" syndrome probably BACKFIRES in a big way, because instead of building someone up, it can actually GIVE her a bad actress image whether it's deserved or not! Victoria Vetri was in an extremely underrated early ' 70s TV movie called "Night Chase." She played one of those "defeated woman" sort of characters hanging out in a bar, and was really very believable.
