Mar 27 11 3:03 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Are there any thoughts on what might bes the "best" overall horror-themed radio series in terms of delivering elements of horror, chills and suspense ? Lately, I've been leaning toward "Quiet, Please" but, I would sure like to hear some other suggestions .

Mar 28 11 2:11 AM Burgomaster Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I'd have to say QUIET, PLEASE is the most consistently good horror radio show. Keep in mind, though, that it produced not too terribly many episodes when compared to something like LIGHTS OUT! SUSPENSE wasn't a horror show but when it did delve into the genre those episodes were often supremely well-crafted. There some lesser known shows that produced some good stuff, too. The fun thing about OTR, BoLorKay, is the exploration itself into the many different shows and episodes and finding those shivery gems that stay with you for a long, long time. I keep hoping that the LIGHTS OUT! episode "The Dark" turns up some day. A decent portion (a recreation with good talent) appears on the Drop Dead lp. GARY L. I've heard scarier episodes on other shows, Suspense, Escape! and The Mysterious Traveler, among others, but the Wyllis Cooper Quiet, Please was in a class by itself. Cooper, like Val Lewton, had an aesthetic, and he stuck to it. The show was at its best unsettling more than horrifying. Inner Sanctum doesn't do it or me at all. The Weird Circle could at times be excellent, and quite literary. Biggest disappointment: Lights Out. Maybe I was expecting too much, given its reputation and all. It failed to live up to its hype.

Apr 4 11 4:47 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	If you like dark endings; The Hall of Fantasy or Dark Fantasy, are good choices. I tend to like The Mysteries Traveler, especially when they did quirky tales like- The Man Who Hated Insects and Behind the Locked Door.

Aug 2 12 10:21 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	HALL OF FANTASY is my favorite OTR horror series. I remember listening to the episode called "THE SHADOW PEOPLE" late one night. Bad decision. After it finished, I was looking over my shoulder about every few seconds, and lost a couple hours sleep. THE MAN FROM THE SECOND EARTH is another pretty scary episode too, along with THE JUDGE'S HOUSE, which was based on a Bram Stoker story.

However, since I've been driving back and forth between VA and Philly on the weekends, I catch "The Big Broadcast" which is aired on a Maryland NPR station every Sunday. They start the show with 2 Johnny Dollar (the man with the action packed expense account) episodes with Bill Baily, Dragnet, and Gunsmoke with William Conrad. They finish off the show playing various other radio programs like Jack Benny or Philip Marlowe with Gerald Mohr. I love them and they help the time go by much better then NPR news and such. I was wondering if any of you guys could direct me to some really good old Horror/Sci-fi radio shows that I can get on CD to ease the drive a bit. Thanks for any help.
