Mar 18 11 6:48 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I've just read my first Dalgliesh novel by PD James "Original Sin" which seems to stand in the middle of the series about her poetry writing cerebral detective. James doesn't spend too much time on Dalgliesh himself in this leisurely written, but well wrought mystery (he doesn't even show up for almost 100 pages in!) Any other favorites in the series anyone can recommend? and I also notice at IMDB that there was a series of mysteries based on James' Dalgliesh in the 80's and 90's. starring, first, Roy Marsden then, in a second series, Martin Shaw. Are any of these worth adding to the Netflix que and should they be seen in order? Thanks to The Learned Gentlemen of the CHFB in advance for any responses.

Mar 27 11 8:48 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Reddog, P.D. James is one of my favorite authors; her crime novels are meticulously written and delve deep into their characters' psychologies. All of her Dalgliesh novels are well worth reading, with standouts being DEATH OF AN EXPERT WITNESS, THE BLACK TOWER and DEVICES AND DESIRES. The Roy Marsden TV adaptations are very good and extremely faithful to the source material, but they are a bit slow for some tastes (not mine!) and are filmed on video, so they're not as glossy-looking as the standard Brit mystery fare. Marsden makes a definitive Dalgliesh. I've only seen a bit of the Martin Shaw ones but he's good as well.
