Redemption/Salvation/Image has released the 1964 British gothic horror THE BLACK TORMENT,starring Heather Sears.
While not quite the hidden gem I was hoping the film to be,it clearly illustrates that Sears was no ugly duckling. Her plucky performance and distinct country girl looks are perfect for her part, playing the young bride of a mad Baron accused of killing his former wife, and of being a warlock.
More of a period melodrama in the mold of THE BLACK ROOM or THE BLACK CASTLE than full blown horror,TORMENT will appeal somewhat to fans of the stylish Italian gothic's that feature Barbara Steele.Expect a languid pace, and a plot that is all too familiar to fans of 60's horror.
