Jul 13 05 3:50 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	anyone here have the Region 2 set "Hammer House of Horror: The Vampire Collection"? I ask because, as far as I know, this is the only place that either VAMPIRE CIRCUS or TWINS OF EVIL has seen a DVD release -- and apparently it's now out of print. How's the quality of the transfer on these films? Is it worth tracking down a used set? My DVD player is multi-region and will play PAL discs without a problem, so that's not an issue.

And while you are at it, why not also pick up its companion, THE CLASSIC HORROR COLLECTION, which contains the masterpiece HANDS OF THE RIPPER (along with two less interesting films). This latter set is still available new from Amazon UK.

Jul 13 05 8:58 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Considering that TWINS OF EVIL was owned by the same company that licensed it for laserdisc alongside COUNTESS DRACULA, I would imagine it's now owned by MGM, which owns COUNTESS DRACULA now, as well as VAMPIRE CIRCUS.

Nov 11 05 1:56 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Wasn't TWINS OF EVIL, along with SCARS OF DRACULA, HANDS OF THE RIPPER and HORROR OF FRANKENSTEIN, all originally released to VHS in the States by either Lightning Home Video or Vestron? I remember stumbling across all 4 of these for rent in the mid-1980s, and taking the lot of them home that weekend. If I recall, HANDS seemed to have a trailer for one of the other Hammer titles. After SCARS and HORROR came to DVD, I had hopes the other two titles would, as well.

Nov 12 05 2:48 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	SCARS OF DRACULA along with HORROR OF FRANKENSTEIN (and LUST FOR A VAMPIRE, DEMONS OF THE MIND and FEAR IN THE NIGHT) were originally released on video by Thorn EMI. I THINK they were also later released on cheapo tapes by Republic Video. HANDS OF THE RIPPER and TWINS OF EVIL were released by VidAmerica, Inc. I was excited when I saw those two because they were the uncut British versions with the Rank logos. I called the company in New York... ME: "Hey these are the uncut British prints of these films. Are you also going to release COUNTESS DRACULA and VAMPIRE CIRCUS which were also in the Rank/Hammer package?"" pant, pant... VIDAMERICA, INC.: "Huh?" They obviously never released the other two...

Yes, I recall Republic Home Video released the bargain tapes of LUST FOR A VAMPIRE, SCARS OF DRACULA and HORROR OF FRANKENSTEIN, as well as TO THE DEVIL A DAUGHTER. Curiously, even though they were all priced at $9.99, some stores had them as EP mode tapes, and others had them in SP mode. Around the same time, Orion Home Video had a $9.99 EP mode release of THE VAMPIRE LOVERS (AIP print), which used the old poster art of the victims chained to pillars. Fortunately, we now have COUNTESS DRACULA and VAMPIRE LOVERS paired up on DVD. Now, if only someone would do the same for TWINS OF EVIL and VAMPIRE CIRCUS....
