But I'm starting to wonder if part of the reason it's now so cheap is precisely because there WILL be a US version coming very soon, and so the company knows they'd better try to sell off whatever stock they have of the UK version while they can still get fans to bite? It's still not worth having more than one machine in my setup, just for L&H movies.

MYSTO -- I am unable to do transfers of this for myself on computer; that is so say, I'm clueless about such things.

You're gonna let this incredibledeal slip by because or a slim rumor? How many rumors haven't panned out through the years? I've lost count. Even if a US Laurel & Hardy set does come to fruition I'd be surprised if it was as nearly complete as the UK set is. You are going to end up kicking yourself for NOT getting the Region 2 set when it was under $40. It will probably become OOP soon and you will see the price rise substantually after that. Why risk being sorry over a mesly 40 bucks? Just sayin'...

But it's not just the rumor that's holding me back; as I've said, I don't want to replace my current Blu-ray player with the Insignia thing, and I don't want more connections and multiple players hooked up in my modest living room for the sake of just Stan and Ollie (no offense to the "boys" there).

The further we get into this DVD slowdown the less and less I buy them. If Turner had shown brand new transfers, then maybe it would give me pause, but they didn't. At any rate, you'd be looking at a $200 set for the same material, maybe even minus the silents (some of which are a hoot).
