Jan 3 11 10:22 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Anyone remember the scene from this film where Kharis throws the body of Yousef Bey (John Carradine's character) out of a window and we get a couple of seconds of footage of an obvious dummy falling to the ground in his place? I was watching the trailer to this film just today and noticed something. When the dummy shown falling to the ground in the trailer, the scene lasts long enough for us to see it collide with the ground. In the actual film (or at least the version I have from the The Mummy Legacy Collection box set) the film cuts away before the Dummy hits the ground! Yes, in this trailer is preserved nearly a full second of footage that never made it into the finished film! How's that for obsessive compulsive movie watching! Superman: Dreams save us! ("He's yours from now on, together with all his accomplishments, including his yelp, appetite and fleas.") I was watching PANIC IN YEAR ZERO! last night, and the trailer includes an interesting additional line by Joan Freeman when Ray Milland and Frankie Avalon discover her in the farmhouse. And at the very beginning of The Mummy's Hand trailer, there's the shot of Kharis from the scene where in the movie his eyes are blacked out -- an effect that many have praised -- but in the trailer his eyes are not blacked out. As for a "useless" observation about THE MUMMY'S GHOST--when the old high priest (Zucco) is briefing Yousef (Carradine) at the beginning, it sounds as though he calling him Useless. It's the only entry in the Kharis series that gave me the creeps when I was a kid,--and they used to broadcast it a lot around where I grew up--and it still works for me today. This thread was coming to resemble Scarlet Street to such an extent that as I was scrolling down and reading the posts when I came to Count Gamula's I had to reread it a couple of times to make sure I got it right,--"you see the mummy grab Dick Foran" at first read like "you see the mummy grab Foran's dick".

Chaney invests more feeling than anywhere else in his part as Kharis, and John Carradine is a terrific high priest. Of course, we're stuck with Robert Lowery as an overaged student and Ramsay Ames who - while beautiful - isn't much of an actress. But who said these things were perfect?

It sounded more like exit music for a musical than for a mystery or a horror--ludicrously inappropriate as "the end" came on, accompanied by the cast list. Isn't there a whole lotta stock footage in this one? Lots of villagers running around with torches, as I recall. I love the shack out in the country with the strange dynamic between Kharis, his beloved and Carradine's high priest suggesting a Hugo Haas fever dream done backwards as to gender, with Kharis in the Bev Michaels-Cleo Moore role. The whole movie was really weird and yet strangely moving.

It sounds more like Deanna Durbin music, or at least Donald O'Connor/Gloria Jean stuff. I know for certain that THE MUMMY'S TOMB has villagers from the 1931 FRANKENSTEIN roaming around courtesy of stock footage. I can't recall if they are also in GHOST which always seemed to be the least-aired one in the series.

On the Chiller showcases they were usually the B attraction, after the the main A, and they mixed 'em up with Inner Sanctum entires and any old Uni pic that could remotely be regarded as horror or next door to horror.

"Ghost" was my favorite Kharis when I was a monsterkid (okay, I still am), but all four have their moments. I remember being horrified back then (the mid-Sixties) when my aunt suggested that they were not very good movies. (I don't remember her exact terminology, but it was something like "crummy".) She may have been right, but they have their moments....
