I'd never seen this film before and was enjoying it until the monster arrived, and then the film went nowhere, and then it was all over before I knew it. Likewise, the script was relatively strong until the arrival of the monster (David Prowsein a laughable and decidely unhorrific body suit), and then it relapsed into all the standard cliches, with a noticeable absence of suspense or plot. It was as if both the director and screenwriter lost interest in the project about half way through, as there is no especial use made of the asylum or the revelation that Frankenstein is still alive. Nor is the lack of morality and near-homicidal tendencies of the doctor in his obsessive pursuit of his experiments ever fully explored, as in one or otherof the previous films. The film ends abruptly and inconclusively with a semi-comical assertion that the mad doctor will simply go on with his mad experiments. All in all, the film is a disappointment, as I was somwhat led to believe by several online reviews that it was a sort of classy farewall by both Cushing and Fisher to the series. At least I got it on sale via Amazon.de along with some better films available from Germany.

My interview begins at this blog post, and my review of the book can be found here. His book, a psychological thriller with horror elements, is a real page-turner; it's suspenseful, has some deeply chilling, horrifying scenes and features some interesting, memorable characters.

I believe it's the complete version, with the extra frames (20?) of extended throat slashing missing from even the German release. I've heard that the Japanese LD is a murky full-frame transfer but in terms of rarity it looks set to remain a coveted collector's item.

Hopefully a new transfer will pop up someday!

Honestly, he just went on and on about it and his adoration for Peter Cushing. His eyes practically danced as he spoke of their long friendship. Although he'd never worked with Christopher Lee, he had wonderful things to say about him, too. I think he was delighted to talk about a different aspect of his career besides STAR WARS. For whatever it's worth, in my opinion, I think Dave's performance here is among the most touching, and frightening, Frankenstein Monsters since Boris Karloff. And, like Joe, I think the Monster suit is very cool. Martin
