Oct 5 06 1:31 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I like TWINS OF EVIL, but had to wait for its VHS release in the 1980s before I finally got to see it. (I think I may like VAMPIRE CIRCUS a bit more, however.) I was just a bit disappointed with Count Karnstein's disintegration, but Hammer came out of the gate so strong with Lee's demise in HORROR OF DRACULA that it's been a tough act to follow.

There was something about Peter Cushing's performance that felt different to me. He was on top of his game here, but something felt hollow. It was later I learned this was his first film since the death of his beloved wife.You could sense the sadness in his eyes.

I wonder if that might be why I find this one less enjoyable to watch? I used to think that I didn't much care for it because his character was so manipulative and vindictive. I'm always reminded a bit of WITCHFINDER GENERAL or MARK OF THE DEVIL, although TWINS OF EVIL is a bit more restrained.

Oct 7 06 3:14 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Seems a bit strange that Network went to to the expense of recording new commentaries for COUNTESS DRACULA and HANDS OF THE RIPPER but not TWINS OF EVIL.Surely they could have got director John Hough and star Damien Thomas to do an audio commentary, maybe even the Collinson twins!!! Does this mean that a rerelease of VAMPIRE CIRCUS can`t be far away?

I just posted about 35 candid photos of the twins taken in March of 1971 whilst they were getting dressed to go on the set of Twins of Evil. Some very cute shots if you love cheesecake with your blood! My ebay id is moreintheattic and simply type in the film title to pull up the images. Thanks! D'Arcy More.

Oct 18 06 11:39 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Before the Collinson Twins made this movie, they appeared together in a surprisingly lewd stag film called HALFWAY INN, probably made in 1969-70. It's set in the 18th century by the look of it, and finds the Twins playing lookalike barmaids at an inn, who surprise a guest with their friendly companionship. He thinks they are a single, exceptionally randy girl who sexually exhausts him. Judging from some of the stills of TWINS OF EVIL, it must have been toned down quite a bit to satisfy the censors, as it's fairly mild by today's standards, but HALFWAY INN finds the Twins cavorting in the all-together and involved in a number of frank make-out scenes with their presumably lottery-winning male lead. Not hardcore, but not exactly soft either. I can understand why it's not an extra on the DVD!

Oct 25 06 10:22 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Somehow I missed this one growing up (oh yeah, I was too young to get in) and only recently caught up with it on a Carlton R2 release. I had always lumped this one in with the tasteless and boring crap that Hammer later produced (BLOOD FROM THE MUMMY'S TOMB anybody?), but I was quite surprised at how well it came off. The Twins were especially good in their roles and showed a definite acting ability, unlike Susan Denburg in FRANKENSTEIN CREATED WOMAN.

I think I had only seen it once years ago and most had never seen it. Pretty good vampire film with the novelty twin angle and a good purformance by Cushing as a pretty unlikable whitch hunter character. A few questions arose though, like why did these vampires (who cast no reflection and are burned by crosses) walk around in the daylight? Otherwise, a pretty traditional Hammer Vampire film with a bit of skin thrown in good measure.

A better question for TWINS OF EVIL is this: the story starts off with people being found with vampire marks on their neck. But this is before Karnstein unwittingly revives his vampire ancestor, Carmilla/Mircalla/Marcilla, etc. So what happened to the vampire who was around before that? And what ever happened to the ghost/vampire afterward?

Also, when Count Karnstein is staked at the end he decomposes as if he is hundreds of years old even though he had just become a vampire days earlier. Hadn't thought about the daylight vampires in the other Karnstein movies. Did any of them ever address the issue of the vampires not being effected by sunlight?

But, like I said, daylight isn't fatal to a vampire in CARMILLA (or even in Stoker's DRACULA), so we pretty much just go with it. I do recall the innkeeper in LUST FOR A VAMPIRE telling the young novelist about how sometimes vampires take blood bit by bit, night by night, while at other times they suck you dry all at once. Notice how TWINS OF EVIL also has the quickest human-to-vampire transformation I think I've ever seen (one bite and you turn around with fangs - but only if you're really bad).

I remember seeing that film in 1963, and laughing with the audience as the vampires jumped into their carriage and pulled down the shades as they rode away. Another good example of Hammer's humorlessness, I suppose.

Nov 7 06 1:56 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Here's some information on the earlier mentioned title HALFWAY INN. It was made about 1970 in black and white and was directed by Harrison Marks. A copy turned up on ebay and it was ''in good condition overall with a small number of splices at one point but no major jumps. It's a full reel and lasts 14 to 15 minutes at 18 fps''. So there is a copy around but what chance is there that it will become more widely available?
