Nov 28 10 5:09 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	What a treasure this show is. I've been reacquainting myself with some of these episodes I'm finding online and I'm hooked. Right down to the formula,scripts,acting,direction, it's all just a marvelous time capsule of our golden age of television. So far I've seen all of season one and few from season two and three and they're just terrific.They hold up particularly good and what a treat to catch all the different character actors and future stars peppered throughout these episodes. I'm just totally knocked out by what I've been missing for so long..... "You can't smell any reefer, can you"?

Nov 28 10 5:33 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	The great casts of B-movie (and C-movie) players has always been a big plus IMHO also. They get lots of big, well-lit closeups, especially in the witness box scenes. Watching PERRY MASON religiously as a kid gave me the ability to I.D. scores of little-known actors when they pop up in other shows and in movies.

I picked up a couple season sets at Big Lots and was in line to pay for them. The woman behind me asked if I liked PERRY MASON. Then she told me her father was a director of photography on the show. His name was John M Nicolaus Jr. When I got home, I checked the IMDb and he did 14 episodes from 64 to 66. Pretty wild to end up in a checkout line just in front of her. Oh, the season sets are only $6 at BL. I picked up season 3 vol 2 and I`ve been hoping to find season 4.

Nov 29 10 3:49 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Count me in as a Perry fan. Question: does anyone know if there was a best season or period for the series? It ran almost a decade. I've seen great episodes from every period,--very early, medium early, middle, late middle, final season--never paid that close attention to it as to whether it declined, got better or remained the same. You can certainly tell the time frame from the cars and fashions, especially women's fashions, and of course Burr and Hopper's weight gain; aside from that the show was well done most of the time. But I wonder if there was period when it had runs of particularly good (or bad) episodes.

Skelton, I was a kid in the late 50s/early 60s and remember Perry Mason on TV, but never watched it -- it just went straight over my head, being a "dumb old kid". But as an adult, I have taken advantage of my Netflix subscription to rent every DVD of Perry Mason seasons so far released. And I just love this series. One of the big reasons I find it so interesting is the nostalgia I feel looking at the "fashion, architecture, furniture, cars, etc". Especially those beautiful cars! Has anyone noticed that in the theme music of the first season the snare drum is very prominent in the mix, and from season two on you hardly hear it. That's the only drawback to this killer theme. Not that it would be better than the original (couldn't possible be) but with the right actors and writers ... Anyone remember the other series starring Monte Markham as Mason that ran from 1973 to 1974? It was a bad move then. But now after all this time, maybe it could work. I always thought Brian Dennehy might have made a good Perry Mason but he seems too old now. I used to watch the old TV series faithfully from 1957-1966 and preferred the one hour shows to the TV movies starring Burr. Even watched the reruns on TBS until they stopped showing them.

It wasn't that bad as I recall--Monte Markham was not the most exciting actor to watch--but nothing to sequester a jury for, either.

From what I remember, they were: 1) The first episode 2) The only episode that Perry lost (and it was so unpopular, they never did it again) 3) The only color episode (which was the final episode filmed, where Raymond Burr let his hair go gray for) The thing is, I think there were other unique episodes that were shown for this event... does anybody remember what the other ones were? I could see it being some of the episodes where a secondary character was highlighted (Della or Paul Drake), or perhaps the episode where Mason helps Burger out.

Dec 5 10 11:41 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Can't really afford, nor can wait for every episode to be released. But, I did purchase the 50th Anniversary Edition. I like it very much. Some fine episodes and I like the screen tests. Especially the ones with William Hopper vying for the Mason role.
