May 21 10 12:09 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Remember when the Sci-Fi Channel used to show this every once in a while in prime-time? It was right around the time they were showing "The Prisoner" at night and "Dark Shadows" in the morning. Those really were the days! (And Saturday mornings would be a line-up of Gerry Anderson shows.) Anyone know what this is? Its unusual size for a repro still I've got two color shots of Christopher Lee from DRACULA, PRINCE OF DARKNESS that look to be about that size. They were prints made from color transparencies. Sep 16 10 5:03 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Bumping this one back up. I've wanted to see CAPTAIN KRONOS for aaaages and I finally got to see it tonight! I'm glad to be able to say that it was as awesome as I was expecting. It's cool to see a vampire hunter whose methods include socking the undead in the jaw. I've heard lots of stuff about Horst Janson's performance being terrible, but honestly I liked him. Swashbuckling and dashing enough to make me think he was a pretty cool guy for 90 minutes. And that's more than good enough. Some random thoughts. - Caroline Munro. Dear Lord. A shame about the whole "no nudity" clause in her contract. - Nice to see John Carlson still rocking the PLAUGE OF THE ZOMBIES sideburns. He sounds a little like Chaymes Mayson in this film too. - "What he doesn't know about vampirism could fill a flea's codpeice." Brilliant. - I spotted the familiar Hammer candleabra in the hallway when Carlson calls at the Durwoods' house. Playing "spot the candleara" in Hammer films is almost as fun as spotting Hitchcock in his films. - The scene in the tavern with Kronos taking care of the three thugs is awesome. Captain Kronos: kicking ass with Samurai swords long before it was cool. - The "let's try to kill John Carlson" scene was amusing, in a morbid sort of way. - The big reveal: so THAT'S why her lips weren't moving earlier! Anyway, overall I enjoyed it, though I'm biased cause it has two of my favorite things in a movie - Caroline Munro and an awesome sword fight. A real shame Hammer never made more. Sep 22 10 2:20 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Kronos could've been a vampire hunting James Bond! Screenwriter Brian Clemens certainly thought so. In one interview about the film, he commented that he'd like to have had Kronos travel about in a coach equipped with anti-vampire apparatus but that the budget wouldn't allow for it.

Sep 14 11 7:24 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Ahhhh, good old Captain Kronos! I first saw this on TV in the late 70's & enjoyed it immensely. After that the Sci-Fi Channel did indeed show it a good bit, so I got to watch it a lot. Just last year I found it at a CD Tradepost, (chain which sells used CD's DVD's & video games), for $2. You better believe it came home with me!!! Wonderful movie, one of Hammer's best latter day efforts & along with Dr Jekyll & Sister Hyde shows that Brian Clemens understood the roots of traditional horror, but also knew how to play with their conventions & our perceptions of them. It has a distinct flavor to it which sharply differentiates it from the rest of the Hammer legacy. Horst Janson appeared in an episode of Upstairs Downstairs around the same time as he did this, and his episode is worth tracking down--he plays a noble guest of the Bellamys who is something of a gold-digger--and who harbors a special secret. H.

My wife is not big on horror movies, she likes & will watch a few, but isn't really a fan of the genre, but she was thoroughly entertained by & really liked CK when we watched it.

A neat blend of Hammer, and for me, though I'm no expert, Euro Horror, Spaghetti Western and Art House. Full Marks to those involved for trying something different. Very Enjoyable. Although I only paid £6 and I'm really glad this was available again, Its one of the darkest, grainest prints I've ever come across on a film that wasn't in the public domain. I suppose the fact I stuck with it was down to the comments here[ thanks, guys] and it is a good, original take on the vampire myth. Hammer should have contacted Clemens and Co more often. Its hard to tell whether this is due to the cinematography or whether the print and transfer wasn't doing it justice. There were times it was nigh on impossible to see what was going on. That aside, there was a stamp of quality to proceedings even though I didn't enjoy it as much as I wanted to. I just felt the whole thing didn't come together with any real spark. A strong idea I but it just didn't catch fire for me. Liked the toad business though and Miss Munro's always a fantasy special effect in her own right.

It's enjoyable enough but lacks any energy which is a shame really because the whole premise had real potential and could've sparked some great spin offs and franchising / merchandising which was the original idea. Sep 26 11 5:22 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	About the darkness of the DVD - it seems that this new Icon edition erroneously used an unrestored 4x3 UK print and if you go to the Hammer website here: http://www.hammerfilms.co...es-to-uk-blu-ray-and-dvd you can find details about how to return it and get the restored 16x9 UK master! I thought the film was pretty good - and it got better as it went along - I couldn't really see some of it 'cos of the darkness but it developed a good sort-of-fairytale atmosphere. I was ready for it to be really rubbish - but it really isn't - I don't understand why Michael Carreas was so against it.

Oct 5 11 1:27 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Dracula Prince of Darkness was the first Hammer horror to draw me in as a kid but Captain Kronos was the film which really drew me in as an adult, and on that basis I have to say that CK is my favourite Hammer movie, period. It seems to blend several film genres together and does not take itself to seriously. Brian Clemens did a fantastic job with this movie and brought some of the fun watchability which he gave to The Avengers to this criminally underrated vampire flick. Oh, and Caroline Munroe is, for me the finest looking of all the Hammer women. Few ladies will ever look better than she does here....

Present were Shane Briant (obviously!), Lois Daine and Caroline Munro who were interviewed by Wayne Kinsey. Also present were Madeline Smith and Yvonne Romain. A great day of meeting old friends. Shane Briant was a delight and has an autobiography out very soon available on Amazon. Fellow Kronos fans might like to know that there is to be a new DVD out next year on Kronos and this will have commentaries added. Just thought you folks and fellow enthusiasts might like the info.
