I'm tentatively calling this Unknown 111, can someone please make a detailed comparison to 729-P16 below to ascertain if they are one and the same or there are minute differences such as in the lips etc. They sure look alike.

I compared using Photoshop. I superimposed the 2 photos using opacity settings. I found that the top of the small photo is rotated slightly to the left, suggesting a different angle to the head. Also, the small photo is stretched horizontally, flattening out Karloff’s face. By rotating back and correcting the width, the 2 photos match perfectly, down to tiny details.
As to the differences in tone, change both photos to “grayscale”, then play with brightness, contrast and the dodging tool, and you can pretty much duplicate the effect and high contrast of the dark photo.

Contantin Bakaleinikoff is at the podium conducting; facing him (wearing glasses) is composer Franz Waxman. To Bakaleinikoff's left (and Whale's right) is orchestrator Clifford Vaughan. Oliver Wallace is at the organ (in the picture positioned directly beneath the conductor's baton). The second violinist from the left has been identified as Louis Kauffman, who played many impassioned violin solos in many Hollywood films. Waxman said up to 40 musicians were used for the largest cues, and at least 35 can be seen in this photo. The acetate discs were dated 4/3/35, which is possibly when the photo of the recording session was taken.
