I'm sticking my neck out here and hoping for a response on the subject of hunks. I think Hammer is the place to get this underway although I'm open to suggestions about other threads as possibilities. Of course... I've been listening to Mr. de Souza host FEAR ON FOUR(tales of horror & suspense) on BBC radio for the last 5 weeks ! Good to know he still got his hand in things spooky.

Nov 26 06 11:12 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	It's about time we had some alternative to the "which Hammer starlet was the bustiest?" discussions. Problem here is that Hammer's leading men weren't typically picked for their matinee idol good looks (in my estimation). They were definitely distinguished, but few would have made a dent in this day and age. I've got to throw my support behind Edward de Souza, although I might be reacting to the characters he played, as opposed to any "smoldering" he might have had going on.

Nov 26 06 2:26 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I think we could say that the Carreras's and Hinds were not interested in good looking guys - those "hot-to-trot" geezers were certainly more interested in bedding the latest female babe. I just saw Helen Mirren in THE QUEEN, and the rumor was that Sir James Carreras set up Prince Philip with Hammer babes. True? Who knows. But old Sir Jimmy DID get his knighthood. There is a wonderful look that the queen gives her husband in the movie when he talks about men keeping their wives in line. Anyway, Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee (at least in the Hammer films. He looked old when he was young. But looked gorgeous in Bava's WHAT!) were certainly not chosen for their looks and at least in the earlier films, Hammer was more interested in the actor's acting chops rather than their six-pack abs. Nov 27 06 7:22 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Yes, I did forget about Francis Matthews. Guess I never stopped to consider which of the Hammer guys were sex symbols. I'm not sure if this was because I came upon these movies years later or if it had more to do with me being too absorbed (or scared) to concentrate on such. As for Mr. Reeves, while I do have a vague awareness of him, the Muscle Beach-look was never my thing. It must be what most males consider the perfect physique though, because today's Hollywood leads have all adopted it.
