Mar 24 12 5:19 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I like the film but don't regard the make-up so highly. For one thing, to my eye, it makes Reed look more Apeman than Wolfman. For another, I could never understand why his lycanthropic self was an albino. Or had his wolf guy self turned grey with the stress of it all?

What makes it so striking is the contrast between the sheer wolfishness of it with Reed's facial features showing through. You have the unprecendented level of furriness, the ears on top, the ripped shirt with fur covered chest, the light grey fur and yet you still see Reed's face. His eyebrows are gone, the nostrils have some putty on them and he's got bottom fangs but other than that it's still unmistakenly Reed.

Mar 25 12 12:53 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I've always found the payoff (transformation, that incredible makeup design) to be more thrilling precisely because the buildup to it is driven by backstory & by characters/relationships rather than violent action & monster setpieces. Kudos to Tony Hinds for permitting the story to develop so -- although it remains, for that reason, the odd man out in the Hammer canon & fan reaction is (clearly) polarized.
