skull island escapee wrote:I thought this film was beautifully-rendered, but jarring. The screen world is so convincing it's a wonder they never just filmed it in live-action: however, there's a lot of 'God-shots' of gliding camerawork, so beloved of CGI manipulatists. This movie is well worth seeing, the antics of Snowy in the sidelines of the frames is a brilliant ploy when the action slows down. Delightfully, a non-PC Scottish drunkard in the shape of Haddock provides much stereotypical amusement, with alcoholic fumes providing one very memorable sight-gag. There is much 'Boy's Own', derring-do and thrilling wonder in the shape of 1940s seaplanes, packed street shots, and 'lived-in' screen world inhabited by the central characters. The scenic backdrop often looks oily, rusty, and organic, and every dollar spent on this production is clearly seen onscreen. I'll probably go back for a second screening, but the sheer photorealism of the characters looks slightly suspect and is removed considerably from the world of Herge [naturally].
