I was searching for a thread devoted to this topic that we might be able to add to, but all I found was one dealing with Stephen King's commentary on "Torture Films". I decided to start this thread not because I want to take credit or make it all my own, but because the older one is three years old and the thread title does not really jump out and cover all bases (it started as a commentary about Stephen King).
I am a fan of the SAW films and I look forward to seeing the newest one later this month, the 7th installment (and in 3D).
But what really inspired me to begin a thread discussing all things relating to "Torture Porn" was HOSTEL PART II, which I'd just watched. I saw HOSTEL when it came out but while I thought the premise was interesting in its warped way, I felt it could have been better made. I rented HOSTEL PART II after someone recommended it over the first, and I thought the sequel was much better than the original. Like it or not, these movies deliver the goods in being disturbing and I think that's the whole point is -- you're SUPPOSED to be repelled and sickened by them. And terrified. The very real idea that sickos may pay big money to get hold of kidnapped victims and torture them to death is the new type of fear.. not being afraid of Dracula or The Wolf Man. I think the first torture sequence is HOSTEL PART II was so depraved and sickening, that it stuck in my mind long after I saw it, and may very well be one of the strongest "kill" sequences I've ever seen in my near-50-years of horror viewing.
