Thanks, ARGumshoe. Glad you enjoy them. I think that brief shot of this zombie as he drops the girl's body is one of the scariest moments in Hammer or any other horror. ZD

David Pirie's book Hammer: A Cinema Case Study (1980) reprints a production memo from James Carreras (I think), expressing his unhappiness with an early cut of Plague of the Zombies ("not good enough"). A later memo approving the final cut refers to some re-voicing of certain characters. Diane Clare's voice sounds very post-synched, though I've no idea who dubbed her lines (maybe Clare herself?) I think Clare is the weak link in the cast, her merely adequate performance overshadowed by Morell, Carson, Pearce and Ripper. Not to mention the assorted zombies. She's okay in Whistle Down the Wind and The Haunting, so maybe I'm being harsh. Perhaps a re-viewing is in order.
