Apr 21 07 2:13 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	You know, to me, the zombie make-up in PLAGUE seems to come closer to Mary Shelley's description of the monster in FRANKENSTEIN than any film adaptation of the novel has depicted: From Chapter 5-- "His yellow skin scarcely covered the work of muscles and arteries beneath; his hair was of a lustrous black, and flowing; his teeth of a pearly whiteness; but these luxuriances only formed a more horrid contrast with his watery eyes, that seemed almost of the same colour as the dun white sockets in which they were set, his shrivelled complexion and straight black lips." Look at those zombies; talk about "don't shoot until you see the (dun) whites of their eyes!"

But though I love the film I still can't work out WHY Squire Hamilton tries to sacrifice the heroine at the end when he hasn't sacrificed anyone else in the same way. Quibble, quibble, quibble....

But the strange thing is, the Squire seemed to have a thing for both ladies, but he wanted them to both be zombies rather than living with him. What was up with that? Was this the only film before Return of the Living Dead that actually featured zombies coming out of their graves? I can't think of another example.

Jul 14 07 7:49 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Jackie P certainly is the sexiest Zombie I've ever encountered, The lascivious ( is that the word?) smirk that crosses her lips as she climbs from the grave is both chilling and enticing. I vaguely recall a seventies thriller called FRIGHT with Susan George and Denis Waterman which lifted the graveyard scene for a few extra thrills. SG was watching it on the TV whilst alone in a house if I remember right.

All thats different though,is that the title card has been moved forward to approx 44sec into the film.The title should be at approx 3m 33sec. The title sequence like this,doesn't make sense,due to the fact that the blood is already on the doll.

The nightmare scene and mine settings have to be among the most atmospheric I've seen in any film, and yes folks, I too loved those sideburns and the zombie babe. It's just a shame Ramboona couldn't make a guest appearance.

Oct 31 07 5:20 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	As a Hallowe'en special, I finally got around to rewatching this after many years, and was amazed to find that it retains its genuinely scary atmosphere. I think that the grave rising was the best thing Hammer ever did, and I'm certainly not usually a member of the John Gilling fanclub. A groaning undead review: Plague of the Zombies As a discussion point, would Peter Cushing have made a better or worse Sir James (or Andrew Keir for that matter), and would Christopher Lee have made a better or worse Squire?? --- Mondo-Esoterica.net - Cult DVD reviews from Hammer to Spaghetti Westerns.

Nov 12 07 10:52 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I've enjoyed this film many times since first seeing it on a double-bill with DRACULA, PRINCE OF DARKNESS in 1965. I revisit it every two or three years, and it's like a nice little time-machine trip back to my childhood. In the "Trivia" section for the entry for this film on Internet Movie Data Base (IMDB) it says that Diane Clare (who played Sylvia) was dubbed - does anyone have a clue as to why?
