Sep 20 10 7:15 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	The Flying Serpent, much to my surprise, actually features a matte painting or two. The Mad Monster also has some optical work. They both feature moderately known actors. The various goriila suit/stock footage programers probably were a good deal cheaper. The Monster Walks looks pretty cheap. Duane Espers's Maniac didn't seem to bother to reshoot the out-of-focus shots. I suspect that the lowest budget poverty row horrors are probably the all-black cast ones, like Son of Ingagi. I'd bet that films like that came in at ten grand, at the most. Film Stock and equipment rental were probably the main expense of the movies, which were for a limited market.

Apr 28 11 11:17 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Greetings, Devil Bat has to be among the least expensive efforts. King of the Zombies from Monogram reflected inexpensive production values. Of course, many of the Bela Lugosi Monograms could not have cost much beyond the talent, but many Universals were produced with minimal expense. How about White Zombie? It seems as if the Halperin brothers cooked up that title without much capital outlay. Many other productions may have been even more cheaply executed inasmuch as fans cannot recall their titles! Apr 29 11 9:40 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	It's all kind of relative, though. KING OF THE ZOMBIES no doubt was cheaper than, say, NIGHT MONSTER or SHE WOLF OF LONDON. But KING has a boatload of different sets. Standing-sets or scene-dock pieces or not, that's a lot of work: the plane interior, the plane in the jungle; the jungle & graveyard; the house interior with four or five separate rooms, the jumbo-sized period Carribean kitchen, and the big room where they hold the zombie-fest in the end. Even something as dinky as MAD MONSTER has a pretty elaborate swamp set, and a nice-sized fiery end. I don't know what the deal was, whether they'd write the things then figure out what to build, or write to what they knew was available. Possibly a little of both.
