My apologies if this has already been mentioned elsewhere. My son caught it on Netflix, recommended it, and so I took a chance. He's right (we agree on most films except the first AvP and the Will Smith I Am Legend, which have generated some loud but good-natured arguments), this very short (approx 77 minutes plus credits) zom-com contains enough far-out humor to satisfy those who are tired of zombie films, and enough gory mutilations to satisfy Fangoria subscribers. In fact, Fangoria is somehow involved in the distribution of the film which carries the logo on the cover.
A standard storyline that opens with a young couple driving the backroads of a rural Irish county. Their car hits someone, kills him, so they put the body in the back seat and try to locate authorites. Quick as a wink, the body comes to life, bites the male driver, so they drive to a nearby cottage for help. The cottage is in disarray. There are a couple of dead bodies that don't stay quiet long, and pretty soon the woman is being chased over the Irish countryside by the living dead. She meets up with Desmond, the local gravedigger, who weapon of choice is, naturally, a shovel. More chasing and more zombies and more gore ensue. The pair find a strange little girl who's lost her parents, and very weird couple who like to use cricket bats on wandering zombies. The rationale for the zombie outbreak has something to do with mad cow disease, and so this film can attach itself to the barnyard/farmland horror sub-sub-sub-genre that also contains the quite entertaining Irish monster film, Isolation. There is even a sequence which allies the film to some degree with the excellent New Zealand horror film, Black Sheep.
Much of the enjoyment here is derived from some very good location photography of a zombie outbreak in beautiful, rural Ireland. Also adding to the fun factor is the quirkiness of the characters. You might have to utilize subtitles in places to understand the dialect, but the film's creators definitely don't use pretty people as protagonists, and their personalities are quite unusual to say the least.
Yes, it's another zom-com, but it's nicely photographed, moves quickly, offers some humorous characters, and goes over the top with gore and... something else that's rather strange. The imdb reviewer liked the film, but didn't care for the acting or script. I didn't have trouble with any part of this. A popcorn film for people who can't get enough zombies.
