The pnly thing that could have been cooler would have been to have the Minoton to somehow confront the Tiger. Just like I wanted Gwangi to fight the Ymir.

Golden Voyage was only so-so and it has one of my all time favorite pieces of Harryhausen animation, but Eye is just a bore from beginning to end. Even semi-naked Jane Seymour doesn't make it worth watching --- in fact it's the only Harryhausen movie I never go back to re-watch. But then as Billy Wilder said "You're as good as the best thing you've ever done," which in RH's case is pretty damn good indeed.

Clash is not a good film but it has set pieces (Medusa, the scorpions, etc.) that I can watch over and over. Eye of the Tiger has nothing like that.

May 7 10 10:11 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	This is probaly one of the worst Harryhausen films made. Bill Waren said earlier in this thread that Ray's creations are not imaginative. I agree. If I want to see a bee, walrus, tiger, or baboon, all of which take up to much screen time, I can watch nature on PBS. Its the same type of thing that made the Mighty Joe Young and King Kong remakes (among other things) unwatchable. I do think that Trog, the beetle men and Minaton were great, but they where such a small part of the movie compared to the other boring creations. Its funny but I had heard this was the biggest budget he had had for a movie. To waste it on all of these routine effects was ashame.

Adventure story characters who get killed in an "anti-climactic" way have their own sort of tragic quality.

Aug 17 10 3:55 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I've got to stick up for First Men. I think it's one of Harryhausen's best. Good story, cast, production, excellent score. The fact that it's one of his only movies that would still hold up without the Dynamation is probably what turns Harryhausen fans off. They don't want to see anything that doesn't center around the Master's touch.

I think its a charming film that tells its story at its own pace, which I had patience for when I was a kid, but my college/high school-agers would not be able to sit though it. I thought the stuff on Earth was funny and the moon sequences awesome. The grand lunar was amazing. "Gibbs!"
