May 13 06 9:32 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Just watched this for the first time in 20 or so years. I forgot how much I liked this film when it first came out. Me and my friends all went to see it at the local theater, and the place was packed. Patrick Wayne was okay as Sinbad, but Jane Seymour...WOW!!!!!! The troglodyte was also cool.

May 13 06 11:47 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I went to see THE GOLDEN VOYAGE OF SINBAD with my younger nephew one afternoon when it was first released, and, being the first Harryhausen movie in quite awhile, and the first new one we'd ever seen in a theater, it was truly a magical experience. I wanted to like SINBAD AND THE EYE OF THE TIGER just as much when it came out, but unfortunately it just didn't do much for me. Especially that animated tiger near the end--it's one of Harryhausen's worst creations. Legend, oh legend, the third wheel legend...always in the way.

May 13 06 11:57 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	You pointed out the most interesting aspects of the movie for me. Jane Seymour is beautiful and Trog is one of Harryhausen's better creations. The Baboon has his moments, too. However, this film isn't a patch on the previous SINBADS, in my opinion.

May 14 06 7:22 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	More so than the uneven special effects, what really sinks Sinbad and the Eye of Tiger is Patrick Wayne, who is easily the dullest of all the Sinbads from the Harryhausen films.

May 14 06 2:46 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	The movie doesn't match the two previous entries and I wish they could've lured the perfect John Phillip Law back, but this is still good entertainment. I think the moment where the Trog appears before the two female characters by the river has a bit of a Kong-like feel to it. This is somewhat reinforced by the Trog's subtle kinship with the baboon and the liking the baboon himself takes toward the sorcerer's blonde daughter. Many of the movie's elements seem to be retreads from the earlier films, so there's a sense of roteness this time out. It's still well-produced and fun to look at, though. *The moon, the moonlight/ Casts no shadow for me to hide/ The stars, or maybe they're satellites/ But neither can grant my wish tonight*

May 14 06 6:54 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I saw SATEOTT in 1977 in the theater when I was 11 years old. I remember thinking it was not nearly as good as "The Golden Voyage", but I haven't seen it since then. SO, I need to see it again to make a clear judgement. I DO remeber the walrus and the tiger as being very underwealming and disappointing compared to previous Ray H. pictures...

May 14 06 7:28 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I never quite understood why Harryhausen insisted on creatures that looked pertnear exactly like real animals or people. Like the baboon, caveman and walrus, even the tiger, in this one. I wish he had come up with more fantastical, not-in-the-real-world beasts. I think he was trying to convince the audience they WERE real--but then why not use real animals or a guy with makeup as Trog? Granted, I doubt there are all that many trained walruses, but even so.....

May 14 06 9:27 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I agree, Bill. Trog is beautifully animated, but is essentially a humanoid figure. Compared to the Cyclops, Dragon & Kali, The third SINBAD is rather drab in the monster dept., a serious shortcoming for a film of this nature.

I was a young and impressionable 6 year old who was thrilled with Star Wars and had previously seen The 7th Voyage of Sinbad in the theater (revival run) a year earlier so I was totally blown away with SATEOTT. I still love this film even though it has its flaws.

May 15 06 1:11 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	This one was put together in an odd way, as well. On previous Sinbads, they took cast & crew on location. Here, before some of the actual actors were cast, a crew was sent to shoot doubles on location for long shots, and to film background plates into which the stars could be inserted. I think that worked against creating a stronger visual mood or atmosphere. And then there are the points about Patrick Wayne's performance (which Harryhausen, himself, said he knew was working against them) and the exotic animals being too reality-oriented. (Rather than the walrus, it would have been interesting to have seen Harryhausen try his hand at a yeti when Sinbad encountered a snowbound beast.) Not Harryhausen's best, but still better than some fantasy films I shelled out ticket money for. (Take, for example, the GOR films...low-budget affairs that threw out all the fantasy creatures of the books.)

He doesn't do anything in the whole movie but row the boat. Seems I heard he was supposed to originally battle the Trog (which makes sense dramatically), but was bumped for the sabertooth. May 16 06 8:48 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	When I watched this again the other night, it seems I remember it being more exciting the last time I saw it. But that's probably due to my much younger age then. There seems to be alot more dead time in this film than in other Sinbad films. It was great way back when, and although there are still things about it I like (Jane Seymour, Trog), it is my least fave of the Sinbad flicks, and way down the list of Harryhausen flicks on the whole.

Films we see young under favorable circumstances we fall in love with for life like the baby duck following the box someone's dragging that it mistakes for its mother. We all have these films (if we're lucky to have had a childhood allowing us to see them). I love tons of cheesy '50's sci-fi films (Giant Claw, anyone?) that I saw as a kid. VALLEY OF GWANGI is not really a very good film on many levels, but I LOVE it - saw it at 12 in the theater 3 or 4 times in one week and was just hypnotized! I would NEVER belittle anyone for liking a movie initially seen under these circumstances. Now I sometimes question ADULT tastes these days, but that's another story (and ultimately even then, who cares? If you like something I don't, good for you - liking is always better than not liking!) I'm always interested in well-stated opinions about films, but I get amused at the sometimes heated discussions that occur between folks on these boards who disagree. I can understand loving something and wanting to convince others that they should give it a chance and see its merits, but it's just silly to want someone else to DISLIKE something just because you do - that's really a negative thing when you think about it. So I'm glad you guys like EYE - I WANT to, but I don't. My loss. SAM33

May 18 06 10:04 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	CLASH OF THE TITANS was only the second Harryhausen film (after GOLDEN VOYAGE OF SINBAD) that I ever saw in a movie theater, so that's probably a big factor in why I've always held it in higher esteem than a lot of people do. There was just something about the experience of going to the theater to see a new Harryhausen movie, surrounded by other fans, rather than just catching it on TV or home video. I saw HARDLY WORKING in a theater packed with fellow Jerry Lewis fans who were ecstatic over seeing his first new movie in several years, so I also have a warm feeling toward that movie that a lot of people don't. Legend, oh legend, the third wheel legend...always in the way.

Everyone on this board I have encountered are absolute gentlemen and ladies. If you want to see a heated argument with the aim of converting someone into actually DISLIKING a movie, venture on to a Godzilla fan board (Except for Xiang's board! We are all gentlemen and ladies there too.). I myself even fell into such a mode for a week or so way back when. I found my self never missing a chance to bash GODZILLA X MEGAGUIRUS before I came to pretty much the same conlcusion as you. It's incredibly negative and probrably not a very healthy activity. Oooh and back to EYE, is my memory correct (memories mainly of watching the film on video in grade school in my Saudi years) that Patrick Wayne had some sort of funky thing going on with his dark arabian complexion? I seem to remmeber noticing in several scenes his tan suddenly stopping in a clean line an inch or so below his hair or turban, exposing fish belly white skin. www.itcamefromplanetx.com

May 20 06 6:39 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Yes, it seems to me he's wearing makeup to darken his complexion - but in all fairness, I think Law does too in GOLDEN - Now Kerwin Matthews, that's a WHITE Voyage of Sinbad! I have no problems with the makeup, but if you can indeed see where it ends, that's just another shoddy aspect of this film. I didn't really mean to imply that folks on THIS board are badly behaved, because really they're not. I guess I just get bored with back and forth arguments after awhile - I love the new info I get reading these posts, but in my opinion, opinions should be stated ONCE and that's that. I REPEAT... :-) SAM33

Jun 3 06 2:14 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Well, I bought a copy of Sinbad & The Eye Of The Tiger and watched it this morning. I must say, I really enjoyed it. Having not seen it since 1977, I forgot a lot of the details. There was a lot of padding (endless shots of The Minoton rowing the boat), but again, I enjoyed it regardless. Jane Seymour and the other gal were both stunning. In fact, what was up with that semi-nude scene?! That was a pleasant surprise! I loved Trog, the baboon, and even the walrus (coo-coo-ka-jube). I had totally forgoten about the sword-wielding skeleton ghouls in the beginning (they were cool), and the tiger itself wasn't as big a disappointment as I remembered it being. In fact, the fight between Trog and the Tiger was pretty darn good! By the way, did anybody else notice that the bearded old man character (Melanthius) was played by the actor Patrick Troughton? You may remember Troughton as the priest (Father Brennan) in The Omen who gets impaled by the falling spear in the church yard!
