Aug 27 10 1:34 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I have just watched halfway through The Bat and I have just noticed how good it is! Hearing of a sound remake called "The Bat Whispers", I checked it up on the net and saw some clips (including that really good special effects clock with the clock tower panning down onto a miniature street with miniature model people on mini treadmill things to make them move!) Is it good? People do say that the silent version was the one that inspired Bob Kane to create Batman.

It's a shame that THE BAT is only available from small outfits like Alpha and Sinister Cinema. It would benefit from a proper restoration and release from a major label. Aug 28 10 10:08 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I would have to agree with atkalu. The 65mm version really doesn't make full use of the frame. West composed his visuals for the 35mm camera, and really didn't alter the composition for the 65mm version. Consequently, the widescreen print has lots of scenes where the characters stand together in the center of the screen, with wide gaps on either side. So I, too, would recommend the standard 35mm version.

Sep 2 10 6:06 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I just got my copy of THE BAT (26) from Sinister Cinema. What a treat! A great print, gorgeous to look at, fine cinematography and pleasant cast. It also had nice "ooky" music. When you add all this to an energetic OLD DARK HOUSE mystery, a really creepy villain and the fact that I couldn't figure out "whodunit" in the first 10 minutes... Well I loved it. BTW, that's Jack Pickford playing the juvenile lead, ala Harold Lloyd. "Little Mary's" brother was darned good. Elisabeth Your Signature ... "....I do hope he won't upset Henry..."
