Aug 9 10 11:06 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I was leaving Venice on a crowded launch going back to my ship. I was sitting, but caught a glimpse of a gorgeous sunset through the swaying people standing in front of me. I literally held my camera around a large Italian woman's even larger buttocks and snapped this shot. Considering how hard it was to hold my camera steady due to the rough water and not being able to look through the viewfinder I think I caught the essence of the moment. Besides, I'm a sucker for a sensational sunset. The following are of Cheryl Crow in concert. The show was at night so it was challenging to shoot a subject in such a low light setting. Also add to the fact that she was in constant motion and I hand held the camera (no tripod) I was pleased most didn't come out a big blurry mess. Cromwell

Aug 9 10 11:16 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	All things considered (fat woman's buttocks notwithstanding), that sunset picture is beautiful. Great pics of Cheryl Crow. I'd say your abilities are quite good, given lighting and obstructive buttocks issues. I think it takes alot of talent to pull off photos this nice given adverse conditions. And let's face it, if you're going to do this as a hobby or a living, you're going to have to deal with adverse conditions on a regular basis. Great stuff Ghostie, for what it's worth coming from a still-learning beginner like myself!

I gave up reading books on the subject and decided the only way to really get a handle on it was to go out and shoot stuff everyday. Learn by doing -- not reading. I love your sunset shot and that one with the butterfly is very striking. Post some more when you get the chance. This can be a cool thread for us shutterbugs to talk shop. Cromwell

Aug 9 10 1:00 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	This is my favorite photo I've taken so far. The sunrise was just peeking through the windows of this old barn. (I confess, I have an "old Barn" fetish) The barn has since been torn down .... This is a "Mormon Cricket". Damn thing is nearly 5" long!!! He was found in Central Idaho while on a hunting trip. It's great to see all the different subjects, if I could take pictures like that of kids, I'd do it all the time. Some people have a nack for it, and Cromwell is one of them. Suzan, GREAT light with the barn, you are fortunate to have both the subject and the know how for that gem. Mike, that butterfly is a perfect exposure. Great stuff you guys (and Suzan). Looking at your photos made me get back to work on scanning my slides from the time I lived in Germany (thanks monochrome, Mike, et. al.!). The slides I took are in pretty rough shape and it is going to take a lot of photoshopping to clean them up. All are from 1974: Me playing guitar in the living room of the house I rented Linderhof, early spring, 1974 (I've been working on cleaning up this pic. It looks like a historic and beautiful place. Fresh snow is always a plus for photos eh? You bought a slide scanner. Did you do a little shopping for that? I need one but haven't started to shop yet so don't know what to look for, but would be interested to hear how it works. With your having old slides, a scanner, and knowledge of Photoshop I hope you have time to share the wealth.
