M-G-M must have rushed Pal into his next film with hardly a break because according to this blurb, if true, Pal had already shot ATLANTIS THE LOST CONTINENT by the time THE TIME MACHINE was released. Note, this blurb is dated about a week before TTM's official release date. And ATLANTIS wasn't realeased until May of 1961. *Los Angeles Times, Aug. 9, 1960* Philip K. Scheuer writes: Success of "The Time Machine" -- it's a smash in opening spots -- has caused George Pal to update the filming of a sequel, "Return of the Time Traveller," to next January. It will reunite Rod Taylor and Yvette Mimieux and will add Anthony Hall, new discovery who has the lead in Pal's "Atlantis, the Lost Continent," just completed. In one sequence of "Return" the trio, moving back in time, will overshoot their mark and find themselves in Atlantis (smart, huh? -- the sets are ready made). -- from The Complete Rod Taylor Site.

Oct 10 11 9:17 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I photographed a zombie walk last Friday and this guy IMHO came up with the most creative costume of all. A zombie time traveler! I posted them in the Off Topic photo thread, but in case some of you never visit there I thought you'd get a kick out of seeing it. I talked to him for a while and he told me it took him a year to construct it (thanks to Lowes). I also commented that he cheated a little, because on the back of the time machine were stacked three books, but they had no titles. His face lit up like a Christmas Tree, as only a kindred spirit can acknowledge as he said "You're the ONLY one who noticed!". Sometimes it's good to be a "monster kid". Cromwell

If TTM finished principal photography in June, 1959 and then had a couple of months of post production, Pal would have been finished with the film by August, 1959, I'd guestimate. I wonder when he started planning ATLANTIS?

Is the TCM edition remastered from different source material or has it been done with an updated codec? My MGM copy of The Time Machine is a little soft and noisy compared to other titles released since 2000, so I am wondering if TCM's entry is better. Any comments or thoughts?

Oct 11 11 4:54 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	<< I wonder when Pal started planning ATLANTIS? << According to a little article in a June 1958 MOTION PICTURE HERALD, Pal already had a completed ATLANTIS, THE LOST CONTINENT screenplay by David Duncan. (Since Duncan doesn't get a screen credit for the script of ATLANTIS, I guess what he wrote wasn't what Pal and/or MGM wanted.) In the back of my mind, I feel like I've read that Pal wanted to do an Atlantis movie for a looooong time before he finally did it. Who does Nestor Paiva play in ATLANTIS? Oct 12 11 1:52 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Next time I watch ATLANTIS I'll look for the character Megalos which the IMDB says Paiva played. I've read that there was a writer's strike from mid-January, 1960 to mid-June of that year and that Pal went into production of ATLANTIS with an unsatisfactory screenplay.

Yvette Mimieux was as gorgeous as can be! It's a great classic, based on an equally classic novel (which I've alas never yet read). It looks awesome on my big screen TV. I can only imagine how terrific it must look on THE big screen at a movie theater!

Also hope they get a better print of print of TIME MACHINE than I did last time I saw it "big". I'm afraid it was pretty darn pink in some reels. (It's fun to see how many clocks from Twilight Zone you can spot in George's house -- I picked one out from an episode I'd just seen that day. Those Morlock steps are pretty Zone-y too)

I'm delighted to say that the print of THE TIME MACHINE looked new and was just about perfect. Looking forward to next weekend when they screen 7TH VOYAGE OF SINBAD and JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS.
