Got to see this on the big screen this weekend. Local late night horror host Dr. Madblood presented this and it was such a great experience.
By no means is this the greatest ever made BUT.....seeing it on the big screen with an audience (albeit small) made me appreciate it more. I also caught some rather hilarious one liners that I had never caught before through several home viewings. One in particular was one of the colleagues of Rod Taylor's. The guy is obviously a drinker and Taylor had been "missing" for a week (because he traveled time). The drinker makes the statement "it's not too uncommon that someone can lose a week here or there." HAHHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! The audience erupted in laughter on that one.
It was just amazing that even though the movie is dated it still holds up VERY well in a theater in modern times. More and more independent theaters need to revive classic films. More and more people who appreciate film need to open up small theaters or something......I know a pipe dream really. Im happy to have the oppurtunity to live near one of these theaters.
Anyhoo, the Time Machine is such a great little gem of scifi/fantasy film. Rod Taylor is wonderful as the inventor of the machine. The effects are fun although dated and the acting well done. I appreciate this film so much more now.
