Oct 16 06 12:32 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I've seen a video interview with old Long John in which he talks about playing Dracula... "I did it three times at Universal, and in the Philipines, and in Munich with Curt Jurgens." I can buy his confusion about the number of times at Universal-- he never differentiated between films for TV and for theaters, so he's probably considering the "McCloud Meets Dracula" episode as Universal #3. The Philipines reference is (I suppose) VAMPIRE HOOKERS, where he doesn't play Dracula, but at least he is a toothy vampire. (I don't remember if he mentions Mexico or New York. Don't think so.) But Munich? Curt Jurgens? I've looked-- I don't find anything. Any guesses?

Now, there's always the slim, ever so slim, possibility that some Carradine-Jurgens Dracula project was started but never completed as a companion piece to above-mentioned MISSILE X...but I doubt it. I'd like to know more about Carradine's forestalled DRACULA VS. THE BEASTS OF ZARCON (if that's what it was called) and HOUSE OF DRACULA'S DAUGHTER. The latter thing got pretty far into pre-production, from all that I can discern. Cast lists include Broderick Crawford and John's son David...and it was apparently Universal! .'. Earl Roesel .'.

HOUSE OF DRACULA'S DAUGHTER merits an entry, replete with cast list, in Stephen Jones' Illustrated Vampire Movie Guide as well. .'. Earl Roesel .'.

"I was in THE GRAPES OF WRATH, THE PRISONER OF SHARK ISLAND, STAGECOACH, THE LAST HURRAH, and dozens of other classics! Why are these grubby children asking me about BILLY THE KID VS. DRACULA and VAMPIRE HOOKERS?" Move over, poor Bela. Here comes poor John.

Still, even a stage production with Carradine and Curd Jurgens would have had SOME sort of visibility through the years, no? Jurgens was a majar star in Europe, if less so over here. @esang: I'd say the HOUSE OF DRACULA'S DAUGHTER stuff is all poo-poo. It's like the big-budget Cthulhu movie announced by some jamokes in CFQ in the 80s, or the grandioise SCARAB with Basil Rathbone as Holmes and Peter Cushing as Baron Frankenstein that's made it into several reference books... it's all fannish nonsense. Someone took an ad out in the trades-- that, I think we'll find, is the extent of pre-production.

Aug 3 10 10:29 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Well, Carradine didn't remember being in BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN either, and you'd think those couple of days would stand out, with his "old friend" Boris Karloff, in full monster battle array, a fight, a fire, and actor O.P. Heggie-- whom Carradine DID remember, but only because he saw him perform several years later in On Borrowed Time, at the Lobero Thetaer in Santa Barbara. When it came to live theater, the old man remembered. Or at least SAID he remembered. I'm pretty sure 'VOODOO MAN' was shot under that title, since the title itself is referenced in the final gag of the film-- that's the title of the script the hero hands to his boss the producer. "Why don't you get that actor Bela Lugosi? It's right up his line."

And about the same time, he actually got to dude himself up in Stoker fashion on stage at least once (on right.) Nocturna. What can you say? It's a job.

But billed sixth out of seven cast members? Oh... now, is that fair? And finally, with a bit of dignity, and back at Universal again, McCloud Meets Dracula, as Loren Belasco, alias You Know Who.
