"it is far too cold and technical for me to love"
Dr., that is not at all true of the original series. Please take a look at a few more eps.; if you can overlook cheapness, you will find a bunch of smart,
heartflet Morality Tales, played out by an emsemble of characters that richen into a bit of a Family - and with some decent Humor on hand.
"Star Trek is for the math and science nerds."
They might like it - but it is not just for them. Roddenberry had a life that included War service, commercial Aviation, Police work, and Hollywood - and all
of that informs his universe here.

Although I prefer to call myself a Trekkie rather than a Trekker. I associate the latter with people who dress up as Star Trek characters, and the former are
the old school fans, comfortable enough in their skins to not take offense at the moniker Trekkies..... andones who became scientists (it is at least true
for my sister.).

"klingon. Any time one appears on screen, I'm immeadiately reminded of one too many unfortunate comic cons"
A fair response! The same one I also have when I see a SW Stormtrooper!

It's also my understanding that 'trekker' was invented by those fans who thought 'trekkie' too frivolous. But in later days it seems to
me that trekkies tend to be good-natured fans who may or may not wear pointy ears, while trekkers show up for jury duty in full Federation uniform.
