I saw it today and was impressed. Perhaps because so many people poo-pooed the creature FX, I wasn't expecting much. I thought the creatures were very well done and the giant "thing" was quite effective as it was never clearly visible. Just enough to let your imagination take it from there. Uniformly good performances with many familiar faces from Darabont's troupe. I was surprised at how the film had this cool 50's feel to it, but with an amped up intensity that never crossed the crossed the line of poor taste. No Hostel/Touristas crappola here. The drug store scene in particular was a skin-crawling experience. The lack of music and overdone sound effects gave a far more eerie feeling than if we were cued by the soundtrack. Well done. The ending? No spoilers from me. I'm still on the fence as to whether I liked or disliked it. It was definitely a surprise, though. Richard Roeper and this week's co-host said that they saw the ending coming. I doubt that. All in all, a really fun, creepy, suspenseful and scary afternoon at the movies. What else could a monster kid ask for?

I don't know...when I'm in a thread about a movie that's currently playing, I pretty much expect there's going to be SOME spoilers here and there...otherwise there'd be nothing but 20 posts of "I liked it;" "how come?" "can't tell you it's a spoiler;" "I didn't like it;" "how come?" "can't tell you it's a spoiler." "so-and-so was really great when he...oops can't tell you what he did it's a spoiler." etc etc. My advice would be not to look at a thread about a movie you're interested in until you've seen it, otherwise you might find out some things you didn't want to know. Just my two cents.
