I not only own a store-bought VHS copy of Grizzly, but I saw it in the theater in Hackensack, NJ in 1976 with my dad (I was 9 years old). I think it played the same week as a film called Day Of The Animals.

I loved it as a kid (I was a Jaws fanatic, so any Jaws-like movie was OK by me), but when I got the VHS in the mid-90's, I was shocked at how DULL it is! hahaha

SO much stock footage of the bear going through it's paces and SO many bear POV shots.

Still, it's kind of fun because it reminds me of how much I loved it as a kid.

I do like the way Richard Jaeckel's horse get's decapitated by the bear. So cool the way the headless horse keeps walking for a moment before it and Jaeckel fall to the ground.

I also think it's pretty neat the way the bear burries Jaeckel and comes back later to eat him (just like Jaeckel describes earlier in the film). Very "Quint-like" in that he dies just how he describes in an earlier story he tells to the others!

The uncut film is actually pretty bloody. People spewing blood, arms getting lopped-off, etc... I remember when it was on TV in the 80's and most of the gruesome stuff was cut out.

I also was upset (as a kid) when Andrew Prine get's it (spitting up blood and all!). I liked him.

The bazooka finale is SO Jaws, it's great! hahaha

My VHS is from MEDIA Video Traesures and the picture is all squashed (pan & scan I guess). I got it at a Sam Goody store for $1.99.

I've since seen it on gray market DVDs at conventions, and I'll bet they simply duped it from this MEDIA VHS.

Finally, I LOVE the movie poster artwork (the girl at the campfire with the GRIZZLY standing behind her).

I remember seeing the ads in the newspaper with the following tagline: "15 Feet Of Man-Eating, Gut-Crunching Terror!"

Hey Joe, I'm actually watching GRIZZLY now (while I do some work and net-surf).

If I'm not mistaken, I think there's a shot of the horse's head landing on the ground. Not sure.

It's actually a lot of fun seeing it right now. I forgot how often they use shots of just the bear's arm grabbing people. You just know there's a technichian off camera wearing that furry arm! hahaha

Trivia: There's a scene where they're drinking Shlitz Beer out of steel cans (you can see the seam on the side of the can)! Great 70's stuff!

Yeah, this tape is REALLY squashed. Total pan & scan...

This is crazy, but I'd love to hear a commentary track along with this film. I'll bet they had fun shooting this!

Yeah, it's not a great film by any stretch, but it sure is a lot of fun.

How about when the bear tears off the little boys leg and then eats the kid's mom?! Pretty awful!!!!

I forgot how "Murray Hamlton/Roy Scheider" the relationship is between the park commisioner and Christopher George.

By the way, I've never seen the Clint Walker film "Night Of The Grizzly". Is that a good one?

In fact, I remember that scene disturbing me as a 9 year-old. Kids were usually off-limits in those kind of violent scenes (especially in a PG film, which Grizzly was). Pretty shocking, and really layed down the law that this grizzly took no prisoners!

I thought it was an R film too, but my box say's PG. I seem to remember it being an R as a kid. I think it was. Too much blood and gore for a PG.

I JUST watched that scene and you're right! They cut away from George and Prine just as they seem to be looking at Jaeckel's body. Suddenly, the two of them are up in the air in the helicopter talking about how "Scotty" is dead.

Looked like a suspicious cut to me too.

BTW, the film is almost EXACTLY 90 minutes.

Yeah, Joe and I were going crazy there for a while. hahaha

The VHS I have says PG and it runs about 90 min and 30 sec (or so).

It does seem really violent for a PG, and they DO seem to linger on some of the gore.

Any idea on the running time of the longer version?

Wow, there must be extra scenes if it's about 7 minutes longer than my VHS.

That might explain the scene we discussed earlier seeming to be cut mid-action.

Now, does Joe have that DVD?
