Jul 19 10 9:05 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	If you're in the mood for a bad 50s sf thriller (which I am every once in a while), this one has the decency of not being over 70 minutes long. Directed by Billy Wilder's brother (also responsible for "Killers from Space" and several other grade Z genre films of the '50s), the film basically has two long parts: the sequences in Nepal, & the ones in California. Personally, I liked the first half better. It looked convincingly cold up in the Himalayas, and the threatening Yeti was scary attacking the hiking party at random. The sherpas who mutiny also develop some plot interest. Paul Langton maintains some credibility in this part of the film as the botanist sidetracked by the Yeti. The second part is a routine kill-the-monster-before-he-kills-us actioner, a plot I've seen many times. As for the monster, he's kept to the shadows most of the time and deservedly so. Unlike the prehistoric caveman in "Eegah," he isn't given a personality and so there is no stake in his living or dying. The print is terrible, but don't wait for a better one. Restoration costs more money than was ever spent on this B pic.

I had always heard of THE SNOW CREATURE but, for some reason was thinking it was a film from the 1970's ( could I have been confusing it with some other movie with a similar title? ). Considering that this is a grade Z movie, I went into it with very low expectations. I was pleasantly surprised. The creature is helped by the fact that you only ever see him in the shadows ( and yeah, my first thought was: leftover Invaders from Mars suit ). I think I pretty much agree with HiFromMike65's assessment of the film, above. Not the best but, you could do a lot worse. - GJS

Has anyone seen this version and if so is it as terrible as every other film this infamous label have released ?

Sep 14 12 11:34 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I like after they capture the yeti and they're all sleeping, and you see it's mitteny handy stirring and then grab one of the snoozing sherpas by the face. Something about that cracks me up. Also, the shot that's used a half dozen or so times through the film of the yeti emerging from and retreating back to the darkness. The phone booth/ stand up shower sized refrigeration unit for transport is memorable as well. I like how you can see it's sillouhette moving back and forth in the generic "what a monster does when it's just standing there" motion.
