I just finished watching Jeckyll and Hyde, I had not seen it in a very long time. I had simply forgotten how great it is.
Beginning with the long shot with the camera just showing what the Dr. sees untill finally we see him in the mirror - what a marvellous idea and what great camerawork.
Also love the "Shirley Temple on speed" blond girl - that proclaims she can walk again.
Then the transformation scenes, there are many and still they are different every time. Frederic March is just great as Jeckyl and amazing as the bionic Hyde.
Plus it is fast paced and has a very modern feel to it. One would never think it was a film made 1931. Especially if you think that Dracula was made that same year and seems ancient, wooden and stagy compared to it - one would think there were 10 years between the two. The camera actually moves around a lot in Jeckyll and is used very artistically, whilst in Dracula it is just bolted to the floor.
Maybe I am overdoing it, but I have not enjoyed a classic film rewatching as much as this one in quite a while.
