May 14 10 2:10 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Not many I would imagine, considering the religious climate of places where country music is most popular, but I've managed to come across a few: "Ghost Riders in the Sky" "The Devil Went down to Georgia" "Phantom 309" A lot of Hank Williams songs are pretty morbid. Any others?

May 21 10 1:32 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Charie Daniels did "Legend of Wooly Swamp," and Roy Clark had a version of "Spooky Movies" -- I've seen the 45, but not heard the song. I don't know if it's the same song as other versions of "Spooky Movies" that were released. Actor Ross Hagen even recorded a version under another name (which escapes me right now). And on one of those Monster Bop or Horror Hop CDs, there's a song called "Sudders and Screams" that is clearly country influenced, and I believe a sort-of remake of a straight country tune.

May 26 10 11:56 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	There's Leon Payne's "Psycho" (inspired by the film and, supposedly, the Whitman shootings), probably best known from Elvis Costello's version (released as a b-side). If I remember correctly, Costello discovered a 45 of the song recorded by a country singer named Jack Kitrell (which wasn't a hit) when he was looking for material for his Nashville album, Almost Blue. Anyway, it's a truly chilling song, written in the first-person voice of a murderer, with no trace of novelty whatsoever (in Costello's version, at least - I haven't heard Kitrell's). On a less frightening note, Bob & Lucille (a Canadian country duo who also flirted with rockabilly) cut a great song titled "Demon Lover" which is about what you think it would be with that title ("demon" isn't a metaphor). Great record.
